Under the leadership of the Recreation Coordinator this position leads/facilitates programming at Kids at the Park Summer Camp at Wetmore Park. Kids at the Park is a full day summer camp for kids post-kindergarten 5th grade that meets Monday-Friday max enrollment of 25. Key responsibilities include facilitation of daily activities in a safe and enjoyable manner development of lessons and activities and effective communication with supervisor and participant families. Starting wage - $20.00 per hour based on experience
Dates and hours needed: Required training in mid to late May. Camp program runs June 15 - August 21. Camp instructors can anticipate being scheduled 30-40 hours a week consisting of half day or full day hours between 7:00 am-5:30 pm M-F. Option available to continue employment past dates listed above to assist with facilitation of school-year break camps and other recreation programs. Essential Job Functions
Major Duties/Essential Functions - Lead demonstrate and instruct participants in recreation games crafts and themed activities.
- Provide an interactive positive fun and safe environment for program participants
- Assist in the development of program curriculum lesson plans and daily activities
- Ensure safe conditions are upheld in indoor/outdoor camp facilities and field trip locations
- Listen respond and answer questions and concerns from parents and participants
- Provide clear communication to and from coordinator participants and parents
- Provide direction and support for Program Assistant(s)
- Attend all required meetings and trainings
- Other duties as assigned
Minor Duties/Responsibilities - Assist in setting up and cleaning up the facility/equipment
- Notify coordinator of problems and concerns regarding equipment facilities participants and/or spectators
- Distribute any needed supplies or information to participants/parents
- Complete timecard accurately and on time.
- Complete required documentation and paperwork accurately as needed
- Arrive on time dressed appropriately according to the dress code and ready to interact with coworkers participants and parents

Requirements of Work
Experience/Education - Must be 18 years of age or older
- Minimum of 1 years of working with youth/adults in a childcare/recreation setting required
- Previous instruction in a camp setting or coaching experience preferred
- Completed coursework in Early Childhood Education Elementary or Secondary Education Recreation or Sports Management or related coursework preferred but not required.
Knowledge - Knowledge of appropriate classroom and behavioral management and instruction methods
- Knowledge of standard safety practices
Skill/Ability - Ability and willingness to understand and effectively carry out oral and written instructions
- Ability and willingness to plan facilitate and evaluate lesson ideas and activities for program participants
- Ability and willingness to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other staff members supervisor(s) and the public and to deal with them in a courteous and tactful manner
- Strong oral communication skills
- Ability and willingness to maintain a safe and positive learning environment
- Ability and willingness to supervise and maintain control of participants in a group and/or 1-on-1 setting
- Ability and willingness to keep accurate records and complete any necessary paperwork
- Ability to make decisions prioritize tasks and respond to continuously changing work demands.
