The University of Wollongong (UOW) invites applications from committed and community-minded Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people for the role of Indigenous Future Student and Engagement Officer within the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre (WIC). This identified position provides an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to increasing access participation and success for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students entering higher education.

Through the Woolyungah Indigenous Centre UOW delivers culturally safe recruitment access and support programs for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students from pre-entry through to graduation and beyond.

In this role you will recruit engage and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander high school students across the Illawarra Shoalhaven and broader UOW catchment areas. You will deliver school-based and community outreach activities support future student programs and events contribute to the Indigenous Admissions Program and help strengthen pathways from school into university.

The role plays a central part in building aspiration strengthening relationships with schools and communities and supporting culturally empowering transitions into higher education. You will also provide coordination support for future student tutoring programs contribute to communication and promotion activities and assist with reporting and data collection to support continuous improvement and funding requirements.

To succeed in this position you will bring strong knowledge of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities cultures and education pathways along with experience working with young people schools and community stakeholders. You will have well-developed communication and organisational skills the ability to manage competing priorities and a strong commitment to equity diversity and inclusion in alignment with UOWs Values in Action.

Please note the following requirements:

  • This position is based at the Wollongong campus and is not suitable for remote work.
  • The successful applicant will be required to hold and maintain a valid Australian Driver Licence
  • A National Criminal History Check will be required prior to commencement.
  • A Working with Children Check will be required prior to commencement.
  • You must confirm your identity prior to commencement by providing proof of Aboriginality as per the Indigenous Employment Procedure.
