The Principal Government Affairs Specialist for MiniMed in Australia will lead the companys public policy and advocacy strategy to create a favourable environment for patient access to diabetes technologies including automated insulin delivery (AID) systems continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) and connected digital health solutions.

He/she will act as a trusted partner to government payers and other key stakeholders shaping sustainable health policies that enable innovation and equitable access to care for people living with diabetes.

This is a highly visible strategic role that combines policy expertise stakeholder engagement and business understanding to support MiniMeds mission.

This position is an exciting opportunity to work with Medtronics Diabetes business. Medtronic has announced its intention to separate the Diabetes division to promote future growth and innovation within the business and reallocate investments and resources across Medtronic subject to applicable information and consultation requirements. This separation provides our team with a bold opportunity to unleash our potential enabling us to operate with greater speed and agility. As a separate entity we anticipate leveraging increased investments to drive meaningful innovation and enhance our impact on patient care.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement the local government affairs strategy for Minimed aligned with corporate and regional priorities.

  • Identify policy barriers and opportunities related to reimbursement digital health integration and innovation adoption in diabetes care.

  • Advise senior leadership on emerging trends political risks and strategic advocacy options to support business goals and patient access.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with national ministries of health payers reimbursement bodies and relevant parliamentary or regulatory institutions.

  • Represent Minimed in policy dialogues roundtables and public consultations on diabetes management medical devices and digital health policy.

  • Foster partnerships with patient organizations professional societies local Medtech organizations and diabetes associations to promote shared policy objectives.

  • Position Minimed as a thought leader in diabetes innovation value-based healthcare and access equity.

  • Coordinate and align local advocacy efforts across internal teams (Market Access Clinical Affairs Communications) to ensure a consistent external voice.

  • Represent Minimed in national MedTech or diabetes industry associations and contribute to joint advocacy initiatives.

  • Monitor local legislative regulatory and health policy developments with potential impact on diabetes care and medical device innovation.

  • Prepare policy briefs position papers and executive summaries for internal and external stakeholders.

  • Anticipate and manage local policy risks ensuring proactive engagement to shape discussions rather than react to them.

Required Knowledge and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelors degree with minimum 7 years of relevant experience in government affairs public policy or health advocacy. or advanced degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience.

  • Advanced degree in Public Policy Political Science Law Health Economics or a related field is preferred.

  • Strong understanding of national health policy processes reimbursement frameworks and the political landscape of healthcare innovation. Previous experience in MedTech pharmaceuticals or healthcare strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated success in engaging senior-level policymakers and driving measurable advocacy outcomes.

  • Deep local policy and political acumen with the ability to translate complex issues into actionable strategies.

  • Exceptional relationship-building negotiation and communication skills.

  • Strategic thinker with high integrity sound judgment and resilience in complex stakeholder environments.

  • Collaborative leadership style capable of working effectively across matrixed organizations.

  • Fluent in English and the local language .
