Job Summary

Description Of Job Duties
The Engaged Learning & Art Gallery Graduate Assistant will primarily split time between the First-Year Experience and Campus Art Galleries programs. This role supports collaborates with and reports directly to the Coordinator of First-Year Student Experience and Director of Campus Galleries. This position provides daily operational support to the three art gallery spaces on campus as well as co-curricular programming and related marketing needs for the first-year student population which largely consists of those enrolled in the CARD110: Cardinal Experience course. An ideal candidate will have the ability to manage and prioritize daily administrative & project support needs in an effort to achieve future goals of all campus engaged learning needs as assigned. The Engaged Learning & Art Galleries Graduate Assistant will gain knowledge & experience in all areas of art gallery and co-curricular programming & operations including but not limited to: marketing & communications logistics & scheduling gallery maintenance art handling team leadership & oversight project management and event planning. Needs will fluctuate between areas based on the academic year cycle and programming needs. The selected candidate will assist with all of the following duties on a regular basis in 20 hours or less a week (excluding academic breaks). FIRST - YEAR STUDENT EXPERIENCE 1. Mentor and supervise; Monitor schedule coordinate tasks & communication among the team. This includes helping support a team of 25-30 First-Year Mentors (student leaders supporting the CARD110: Cardinal Experience & Transition teams) during the first 8 weeks of each semester. 2. Marketing & Communication efforts to advertise events & CARD110 program utilizing both digital and print methods. Assist in monitoring & updating external communications such as the Hub website content newsletter information and visual marketing needs. Develop & implement templates and timelines for daily & annual project/team management tasks & procedures. Regularly create monitor and implement marketing promotion & digital media awareness campaigns & materials website content Hub page and social media accounts to support exhibitions events & FYE program visibility & communications. 3. Clerical and administrative duties such as contract collection scanning and digital file organization. Maintain inventory and organization of materials supplies & records. Event training and program documents & materials in Box and Canvas as needed. 4. Research and collaborate with campus partners archivists and librarians to fulfill program needs grant applications or reporting requirements. Support maintenance execution & expansion of program efforts both in and out of the classroom. 5. Project management & event support including but not limited to assisting FYMs with planning event details arranging food service & catering set up & tear down etc. Maintaining program calendars campus events trainings and related programming needs. Develop & implement templates and timelines for daily & annual project/team management tasks & procedures. Cardinal Connections Events: First-Year Function Series Academic Department Reception (Fall) Engaged Learning Panel (Spring) 6. Maintain physical space(s) & Event Preparations: Facilitate event execution by monitoring and/or arranging set up & tear down needs for FYE related events across campus. Maintain general cleanliness & presentation of all spaces utilized before and after events. Orchestrate support needs for events in advance (maintenance housekeeping and Course Dog reservation requests). Staging & supporting acquisition of materials for events. 7. Presence & Participation in all aspects of programming: Assisting in development revision assessment & delivery of FYM & instructor training or workshops communities of practice student events and other related needs. 8. Support Engaged Learning leadership & all aspects of the NC Forward Strategic Plan. Coordinator of First-Year Student Experience (direct supervisor) Faculty Director of CARD110 other EL teams or Assistant Provost as needed ART GALLERIES 1. Mentor and supervise; Monitor schedule coordinate tasks & communication among the gallery staff team. This includes helping support a team of 5-7 Gallery Assistants (undergraduate student workers serving as gallery docents) during the academic year. Marketing & Communication efforts to advertise exhibitions & related events utilizing digital print and radio distribution methods. Assist in monitoring & updating external communications such as the Hub website content newsletter information and visual marketing needs. Develop & implement templates and timelines for daily & annual project/team management tasks & procedures. 2. Regularly create monitor and implement marketing promotion & digital media awareness campaigns & materials website content Hub page and social media accounts to support exhibitions events & FYE program visibility & communications. 3. Clerical and administrative duties such as contract collection scanning and digital file organization. Maintain inventory organization of materials supplies & records. Event training and program documents & materials in Box Canvas and Google Drive as needed. College art collection & exhibition archive. 4. Research and collaborate with campus partners archivists and librarians to fulfill program needs grant applications or reporting requirements. Support maintenance execution & expansion of gallery & Art Design Dept. efforts both in and out of the classroom. 5. Project management & event support including but not limited to coordinating/planning event details timeline management arranging food service & catering set up & tear down etc. Maintaining exhibition calendars team schedules campus events trainings and related programming needs. 6. Maintain physical space(s) and Preparator duties: Facilitate day-to-day operational needs in the Schoenherr Oesterle library & Meiley-Swallow Galleries. This includes but is not limited to assisting with & managing: Wall repair/maintenance between shows such as hanging wires painting & patching Cleaning organizing and monitoring. Monitor/maintain general cleanliness & presentation of all spaces utilized. Orchestrate support needs for events programming and physical spaces in advance. Staging & supporting acquisition of materials for events. Art fragile/precious object handling in the form of (un)packing storage shipping (de)installation etc. Staging & supporting acquisition of materials for events. 7. Presence & Participation in all aspects of programming: Draft & post calls for art review exhibition proposals and participate in the jury selection process for next season. Assist in development & delivery of team training program assessment and improvement or evolution. 8. Support faculty and staff from across the college in engaged learning & (co)curricular pursuits as they relate to all aspects of the NC Galleries mission & NCForward Strategic Plan. Job Qualifications
REQUIRED Current or accepted graduate student at North Central College Effective verbal and written communication skills (interpersonal presentation and analytical skills) Demonstrated problem-solving & critical thinking skills. Ability to work with a team as well as independently. Willingness to learn and be responsive to feedback. An interest in art and art history college transition & student experience higher education business management event planning & hosting marketing & communications and/or gallery preparations installation and art handling. Occasional evening and/or weekend hours for artist reception and community events. Abide by the college code of conduct and expectations as outlined in the Student Handbook Other duties as assigned.
