We are a team of vibrant professionals with experience across a range of sectors including renewables infrastructure defence regulation and policy resources and the urban development sector.
We are currently seeking to appoint an experience Financial Controller to lead our finance operations.
About the Role:
This role is ideal for an experienced finance leader who thrives in a fast paced hands on environment. You will draw on your deep technical accounting capability and strategic thinking to strengthen financial integrity optimise systems compliance processes and support operational performance across a multi-site multi-service organisation. This position oversees the external audit process safeguards the integrity of financial reporting and supports strategic decision making through accurate reporting and sound technical advice.
The Financial Controller leads a high performing finance team cultivating capability development driving operational excellence and championing continuous process improvements. Working closely with the CFO and the executive leadership team you will play a pivotal role in guiding and elevating the organisations financial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee the preparation of annual consolidated financial statements and periodic financial reporting
- Ensure compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and internal policies and controls
- Oversee the preparation and lodgement of tax returns BAS FBT and other statutory tax obligations
- High proficiency in using relevant technology including finance systems; Microsoft SharePoint Excel Power BI; payroll systems and Copilot AI
- High proficiency in risk management and internal control design and assessment
- Reviewing and approving payments as required
- Provide technical accounting and tax advice to senior executives
- Manage the end to end external audit process including coordination with auditors preparation of audit deliverables and resolution of audit queries
- Monitoring compliance and reporting on debt covenants and shareholder deed obligations
- Maintain effective professional relationships with external service providers and partners including auditors financiers advisors and investors
- Maintain and recommend updates to Umwelt policies and processes to support compliance appropriate controls and commercial outcomes in a changing business environment
- Provide authoritative guidance on complex accounting and compliance issues
- Provide strategic guidance to CFO to support finance team to meet company goals and directions
- Lead and mentor a team of finance professionals fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement
- Drive professional development succession planning and team engagement
- Champion process optimisation and automation across financial reporting and compliance functions
- Collaborate with relevant business leads to enhance reporting tools and data integrity
- Deliver ad hoc reporting to support business needs
- Fulfil the acting CFO role during periods of leave
About You:
- CA or CPA qualified with extensive experience in financial reporting and consolidations
- Background in senior audit or senior finance roles in large complex organisations. Experience in a professional services organisation preferred
- Extensive awareness of Australian Accounting Standards and their application to large private sector organisations
- Considerable experience in advising executive leaders and governance bodies
- Considerable experience in leading an inclusive high-performing team
- Strategic and practical thinker committed to continuous improvement and problem solving
- Skill in fostering a cohesive respectful team environment and relationships with the wider business
- Influence and inspire others positively with integrity
- Knowledge and experience developing and implementation of relevant legislation/policies/guidelines
