Job Summary

The Facilities Team Lead oversees the day-to-day maintenance and cleaning operations for The Mustard Seeds Medicine Hat facilities. This role combines hands-on maintenance and janitorial responsibilities with providing direction task assignment and training to staff and volunteers. The Team Lead ensures that facilities are safe clean and well-maintained work is completed efficiently safety standards are upheld and services reflect The Mustard Seeds mission to build hope and well-being for vulnerable citizens through Jesus love.

Schedule: Full-time 8-hour shifts five days per week

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provide day-to-day direction and guidance to Facilities staff and volunteers ensuring tasks are clear and completed to standard.
  • Work alongside staff and volunteers on cleaning and maintenance tasks when needed modeling safe and efficient practices.
  • Train team members and volunteers in safe practices proper use of equipment and organizational procedures.
  • Assign tasks and monitor progress to support timely and effective completion of work.
  • Direct and support in-house and temporary labour staff ensuring strict adherence to all safety guidelines and procedures.
  • Lead the maintenance crew in repairs disassembly/assembly of equipment and support external contractors as needed.
  • Ensure effective communication within the team and with other departments.
  • Perform and oversee general repairs including plumbing carpentry painting electrical and HVAC systems.
  • Coordinate and perform preventative maintenance schedules safety inspections and compliance checks (e.g. fire safety WHMIS OH&S).
  • Ensure compliance with all applicable government regulations relating to facilities operations and maintenance work.
  • Manage and maintain facility equipment tools and supplies ensuring safe and efficient use.
  • Record and track all service requests work orders and maintenance activities using Property Asset Management Software.
  • Oversee the procurement and inventory of cleaning supplies and maintenance parts.
  • Assist the Director of Facilities with preparation of the building operating budget and other budgeting requirements.
  • Respond promptly to facility-related emergencies including after-hours incidents.
  • Clean and maintain designated areas including but not limited to offices restrooms and common spaces by performing routine tasks such as sweeping mopping dusting and vacuuming following established cleaning procedures.
  • Oversee waste disposal and recycling snow removal and lawn/garden maintenance.
  • Respond to urgent cleaning needs (e.g. spills accidents) to maintain safety and dignity for all clients and staff.
  • Operate and maintain cleaning equipment.
  • Act as the primary contact for facility-related concerns escalating issues to the Director of Facilities as required.
  • Work collaboratively with staff clients and volunteers to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and services.
  • Maintain professionalism punctuality and attendance.
  • Participate in staff meetings and required training.
  • Ensure compliance with all organizational health and safety policies.
  • Perform all other duties as required at various sites.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • High School diploma or equivalent; trades training or courses in building maintenance preferred.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in facility maintenance including supervisory or lead-hand experience.
  • Working knowledge of carpentry electrical plumbing HVAC boiler systems and general building operations.
  • Familiarity with control systems (e.g. security fire alarm life safety energy management) and ability to troubleshoot operational issues.
  • Strong organizational problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of WHMIS and OH&S standards.
  • Class 5 Drivers License and reliable transportation.
  • Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a team and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrates reliability and dependability treating others and their property with respect and care.
  • Organized proactive and accountable with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Willing to take on all tasks including routine or less visible duties with a positive and service-minded attitude.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
  • Moderate to heavy physical effort including lifting carrying climbing and standing for extended periods.
  • Steel-toe protective footwear is required at all times while on duty regardless of whether an immediate hazard is present.
  • Required to be on-call evenings and weekends.
  • This position may be required to work out of other TMS locations based on the needs and direction of The Mustard Seed (TMS).
  • This position involves working in a challenging and potentially volatile environment where you may encounter racial slurs name-calling and derogatory comments from community members. It requires resilience conflict resolution skills and the ability to maintain professionalism and composure in the face of adversity. Training and support will be provided to ensure your safety and well-being.
