Job Summary

The House of Commons Digital Services and Real Property is looking to staff the Digital Accessibility Lead (Senior Digital Product Developer)position on a term basis. 
 
This recruitment and selection process is restricted to House of Commons employees. 

As the Digital Accessibility Lead you will support the Digital Accessibility Program by implementing strategies and visions to enhance digital accessibility compliance and foster a culture of inclusivity within the House of Commons. This role will involve working closely with various teams to ensure digital products meet accessibility standards. This role will also collaborate with testers developers designers and content creators to integrate accessibility best practices and act as a primary contact for accessibility inquiries providing solutions to challenges. 

Responsibilities will include organizing accessibility audits and evaluations identifying and documenting issues and working with teams to prioritize and implement fixes while staying current with evolving standards. The role will also involve providing recommendations focused on accessible and user-friendly interfaces advocating for user centered design principles and organizing user consultations with diverse user groups. Additionally you will help deliver/organize training sessions on accessibility best practices promote awareness of inclusive design and support the creation of accessibility documentation and guidelines. Monitoring and reporting duties will include tracking accessibility initiatives progress updating stakeholders and developing metrics and KPIs to measure effectiveness.

Qualifications :

Education: 

  • Graduation from a college or technical institute in the area of information technology or other related fields or an acceptable combination of education training and experience. 

Experience:  

  • Proven experience in digital accessibility with a good understanding of accessibility standards and guidelines as an example WCAG 2.2; 
  • Familiarity with assistive technologies (e.g. screen readers magnifiers) and accessibility testing tools (e.g. Axe WAVE etc.); 
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders; 
  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. 

Assets: 

  • Knowledge of project management principles and practices; 
  • Certification in accessibility and/or User Experience (e.g. Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) Web Accessibility Specialist (WAS).
