Duties and Responsibilities1. *Collaborates with other unit professionals to provide and/or arrange for legally mandated access services to university students with disabilities in the areas of: notetaking transportation requests furniture placement mobility assistance exam coordination alternate format transcription and communication access coordination
2. *Monitors units peer notetaking requests and arranges for appropriate notetaking services.
3. *Recruits hires trains schedules and supervises student assistants and assists with personnel and payroll processing duties.
4. *Creates and maintains records for each new staff member hired in units comprehensive interactive database(FileMaker).
5. *Monitors the receipt and distribution of notes on a daily basis.
6. *Monitors the accuracy completeness and submission of semi-monthly timecards of student assistants.
7. *Maintains regular check-ins with student employees.
8. *Oversees requests for van transportation and mobility assistance and arranges for appropriate services.
9. Assists with overseeing all elements of alternate format conversion including but not limited to converting print material to alternate format such as digital braille etext enlargement and tactile or arranges for the acquisition of the converted material from external sources.
10. Manually inputs students requested registration for classes via Banner.
11. *Arranges for and monitors the placement of adaptive furniture in classrooms.
12. Assists with overseeing all elements of accommodated exams.
13. Determines with other staff the nature extent and appropriateness of disability access services to be provided.
14. *Communicates with full-time unit staff regarding concerns with student assistants students with disabilities faculty members other students order to consider the most appropriate course of action and to resolve the issues at hand.
15. *Assists unit by keeping abreast of emerging trends in disability access services in higher education.
16. Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree inSocial Sciences Education Information Sciences or related field and1year(s) of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for providing disability access services in a higher education setting; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
2. Functional knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of providing services to persons with disabilities demonstrated by knowledge understanding and ability to apply concepts terminology.
3. Functional knowledge and understanding of principles theories federal and state laws rules regulations and systems associated with disability access services in higher education settings.
4. Demonstrated ability to recognize problems identify possible causes and resolve the full range problems that may commonly occur in the area of services to persons with disabilities.
5. Demonstrated ability to understand oral and written documentation write reports and procedures and communicate effectively in a variety of situations.
6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team members and individuals.
7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software and utilize database software.
8. Ability to understand and follow complex oral and written instructions.
9. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records and to prepare routine reports.
10. Ability to work accurately with interruptions to meet deadlines. Ability to work in a flexible way that allows for changes in assignments and priorities depending upon identified needs of the unit.
11. Knowledge and understanding of technology and hardware and software associated with databases.
12. Ability to supervise the work of student employees manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
Desirable Qualifications
1. Experience with assistive technology software.
2. Experience providing proofreading services.
3. Experience communicating in American Sign Language at a conversational level.
4. Experience in using/developing FileMaker Pro Software.
