Position Title: Seasonal Interpretation Coordinator
Department: Interpretation
Reports to: Manager of Interpretation
FLSA Status: Part-time SeasonalNon-Exempt
Compensation: $26 per hour
Position Description:
The Seasonal interpretation assistant is responsible for managing and supporting live interpretation efforts to welcome visitors with a wide range of needs and provide an engaging experience at the Garden. The assistant provides hands-on support to staff hired tour leaders and volunteer Garden Guides with tours and other interpretive programs. The flexible work schedule includes: four 6-hour days including Saturday plus extended hours at peak tour times.
Responsibilities:
- Coordinate Garden Guide and tour support volunteer tour schedules.
- Support Garden Guides and tour leaders with listening devices and tour assistance.
- Assist with Garden Guide volunteer continuing education workshops and trainings.
- Organize and coordinate tour and training materials; interpretive materials.
- Lead 60-minute tours of BBG as needed.
- Input and track tour statistics.
- Coordinate the administration of tour surveys and evaluations.
- Install and update tour signs and other interpretive information.
- Support the Interpretation department and weekend Garden staff as needed.
- Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- Experience working for a cultural organization
- Able to work independently and on a team exercising punctuality reliability and flexibility
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Comfortable with public speaking to all audiences
- Comfortable working outdoors and in glasshouse conditions
- Able to traverse the Garden for an hour or more in various weather conditions
- Friendly outgoing and proactive with the public and volunteers
- Love of plants and gardens and the natural world
- Competent with Microsoft Office applications
- Willing to learn BBGs volunteer computer database program Volgistics
- Understanding of the Americans with Disabilities Act
- Able to work weekends and some evenings
Schedule:
This is a seasonal position from January 14 to November 13 2026. Interpretation assistant will generally work up to 24 hours per week. WednesdaySaturday 10 a.m.4:30 p.m.
