POSITION PURPOSE:

The ONCALL 1:1 RN provides direct nursing services to one student to allow the student with complex health needs to fully access their education.

NATURE & SCOPE:

This position is subject to board policies administrative rules and procedures department regulations and applicable state and federal statutes. This position carries/does not carry administrative authority. All commitments outside of authorized programs and services are subject to prior approval by the supervisor of this position.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Facilitate health services for identified student by:
    • Developing a Student Health Management Plan (SHMP) and providing a summary of health information including recommendations for the school program including:
      • Nursing care plan
      • Emergency plans as indicated
      • Delegation and assignment of nursing procedures to Unregulated Assistive Persons (UAPs) as indicated
      • Transportation plans
      • IEP goals
      • Collaboration with the Complex Needs Nurses as indicated
    • Providing continuous observation and assessment of student health needs
    • Periodically re-evaluating student health status identified health concerns goals and placement to determine if modifications could be necessary.
  • Act as liaison between the family school staff and medical providers to ensure effective communication and to make sure the student is being provided the least restrictive and safe school environment.
  • Participate as a member of the multidisciplinary team and make appropriate recommendations regarding how the students health needs fit within the IEP.
  • Demonstrate commitment to maintain professional practice competency.
  • Contribute to a positive and productive work environment.
  • Consult with the Nursing Supervisor for assistance and/or direction when needed.
  • Other job-related duties as assigned by SHS Administration
  • Maintain regular and punctual Attendance

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule
  • Demonstrated effective communication leadership and time management skills
  • Valid drivers license and vehicle available for use
  • Current certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)



DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS ABILITIES:

  • Bilingual or multilingual in Spanish Vietnamese Chinese Russian Somali



EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Valid Oregon license to practice as a Registered Nurse and
  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) working in a hospital or community setting with chronic or technology-supported health conditions.
  • Any combination of education and experience that would provide the applicant with the desired skills knowledge and ability required to perform the job



WORKING CONDITIONS:

Work is performed primarily on a school campus both indoors and outdoors including classrooms gyms cafeterias and community locations. Duties involve standing walking climbing bending pushing pulling and lifting. The role requires the use of durable medical equipment and standard office equipment (e.g. computer). Accompanying the student on the bus and occasional home visits travel to health-care or social-service providers are also required. The position frequently involves working with students families or staff in high-stress situations.
