The Parts Department Counter Manager is responsible for overseeing daily counter operations supporting internal and external customers and leading counter staff to ensure accurate efficient and profitable parts sales. The manager will collaborate with the Parts Director to support operational consistency and continuous role plays a key part in supporting the service department technicians and wholesale/retail customers while maintaining Ford brand standards and dealership profitability.
Key Responsibilities
Counter Operations & Customer Service
- Manage daily parts counter operations for retail wholesale and internal (service/technician) customers
- Ensure prompt accurate parts identification pricing and invoicing
- Resolve customer concerns and backorder issues professionally and efficiently
- Maintain strong working relationships with Service Advisors Technicians and Sales staff
Team Leadership & Training
- Supervise coach and support Parts Counter personnel
- Train staff on Ford parts systems catalog usage and dealership processes
- Monitor performance and productivity; provide feedback and corrective action as needed
- Assist with scheduling and coverage to ensure counter efficiency
Inventory & Process Management
- Ensure proper parts stocking bin location accuracy and inventory control
- Assist with cycle counts obsolescence management and special orders
- Monitor backorders emergency orders and daily stocking orders
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of the parts counter and work areas
Sales & Profitability
- Promote add-on sales and upsell opportunities where appropriate
- Ensure pricing accuracy and adherence to dealership margin standards
- Track and support wholesale and retail sales growth
- Work with management to meet or exceed department sales and gross profit goals
Systems & Compliance
- Utilize Ford and dealership management systemsaccurately
- Follow Ford policies warranty procedures and dealership guidelines
- Maintain compliance with safety environmental and company standards
Qualifications & Skills
- Minimum 25 years of automotive parts experience (Ford experience strongly preferred)
- Prior supervisory or lead experience in a parts department strongly preferred
- Strong knowledge of Ford parts catalogs and ordering systems
- Excellent customer service communication and problem-solving skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced dealership environment
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficient in dealership management software and Microsoft Office
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs
- Frequent bending reaching and walking within the department
