Job Summary

The City of Penticton has a 4-month (May-Sept 2026) opportunity for a Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Co-op Student who is enrolled in a Water Engineering Technology program.

Reporting to the Water Quality Supervisor the Water Treatment Plant Co-op Student assists the Water Treatment Plant operations teams in performing operational and maintenance work. This involves performing operational and maintenance duties in order to maintain water quality that meets or exceeds all compliance criteria outlined in Citys Permit and Provincial and/or Canadian Drinking Water Legislation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the observation of gauges meters and control panels and advises the WTP operator accordingly.
  • Assist in the operation of water treatment plant processes.
  • Performs maintenance of water treatment plant processes.
  • Perform laboratory tests and take water quality and beach samples as required.
  • Other reasonable duties as required.

Required Knowledge Abilities & Skills:

  • Knowledge of British Columbia regulations operating permits and City policies.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks establish priorities and respond calmly and efficiently in an emergency situation.
  • Ability to express ideas clearly and effectively both orally and in writing and execute both oral and written instructions.
  • Thorough knowledge of applicable safety regulations standards policies and procedures.
  • Proficient in the use of computers including spreadsheet database and word processing applications.
  • Strong work ethic with the ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Ability to exert moderate physical effort for prolonged periods of time.

Education Training & Experience:

  • Enrolled in a Water Engineering Technology program.
  • Demonstrated Experience working at an intermediate level of proficiency with Microsoft Office based computer applications including Word and Excel.
  • Valid Class 5 B.C. Drivers Licence; Class N is also acceptable.

Position type: Four months May-September (40 hours per week typically from Monday Friday including some evenings)
Wage:$21.92 - $23.74 per hour (CUPE) / The rates of pay will vary according to the term identified by the institution.
Benefits:Additional 15.5% in lieu of benefits vacation and statutory holidays
