About the Program

St Vincents to Deliver Australias New Free Digital Mental Health Service

St Vincents is proud to partner with the Australian Government to deliver fast free and accessible digital mental health support through the new Medicare Mental Health Check-In Service launching 1 January 2026.

This national program will provide rapid access to evidence-based low-intensity CBT delivered by qualified practitioners supporting people experiencing stress distress and anxiety to get help early. The service empowers people to improve their mental wellbeing sooner reducing the need for longer-term care and enabling better outcomes for individuals and communities.

About the Role

As a LiCBT Practitioner- (Counsellor Mental Health Nurse Social Worker Occupational Therapist Psychologist) you will be a core member of a newly established national virtual mental health workforce delivering structured Low-Intensity Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (LiCBT) to Australians seeking early mental health support. Working in a virtual-first model you will provide collaborative goal-focused care using telephone video and webchat guided by best-practice treatment protocols and supported by clinical leaders supervisors and your multidisciplinary are looking for

This role is designed to empower Australians with practical skills and strategies to manage stress distress and anxiety early improving wellbeing and reducing escalation to higher levels of care.


You will:

  • Provide structured LiCBT treatment that is measurable evidence-based and person-centred

  • Develop clear treatment plans tailored to individual goals using digital tools and resources

  • Monitor progress and outcomes adjusting interventions to maximise clinical benefit

  • Deliver effective risk screening identifying when escalation or referral is required

  • Document clinical notes promptly and accurately to ensure continuity of care

  • Support culturally safe accessible and inclusive care for diverse communities across Australia

  • Participate in ongoing supervision reflective practice and coaching to continually grow your capability

  • Contribute to quality improvement research activities and digital service enhancement

  • Champion mission values and a learning culture across the team and organisation

  • You will work within national standards of clinical governance supported by strong pathways to supervision training and career development while contributing to a once-in-a-generation shift in how mental health support is delivered nationwide.

  • You will empower people to build skills that strengthen mental health and resilience wherever they are.

What You Will Bring

Clinical capability
Experience in mental health support ideally including CBT assessment intervention and/or counselling
Understanding of contemporary approaches such as person-centred strengths-based and harm-reduction models
Ability to identify individual needs and tailor effective therapeutic strategies
Commitment to empowering consumers toward self-determination and personal goals

Communication & digital confidence
High-level verbal and written communication skills including via phone and video
Strong digital literacy including familiarity with electronic client record systems and virtual service delivery

Collaboration & values-based practice
Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team
Confidence engaging with a range of internal and external stakeholders (e.g. consumers community agencies health departments)
Alignment to mission values and person-centred care principles

Qualifications
Tertiary qualification in counselling nursing social work occupational therapy psychology or related discipline
Eligibility for registration/membership with a relevant professional body

Assessment Centres Mid-January

Shortlisted applicants will attend an In-Person Assessment Centre in mid-January 2026. This ensures a fair consistent and values-aligned process and will include:

A scenario-based clinical skills assessment
A structured behavioural interview
A group collaboration activity
A Q&A session with clinical leaders

Please ensure availability from mid-January onwards (specific dates will be confirmed).
Candidates progressing from the Assessment Centre will move into final pre-employment checks.
