Purpose of the Role

BGIS is seeking an experienced Electrical Technician to support electrical maintenance services within a nationally significant heritage-listed precinct in Canberra . This role has been created following the successful commencement of a newly acquired long-term government contract.

Reporting to the Facilities Management team you will work closely with client representatives technicians and specialist partners to ensure electrical systems are safe compliant reliable and well cared for in a high-profile public environment.

The ideal candidate brings a calm detail-oriented approach enjoys working as part of a supportive team and takes pride in maintaining sensitive and meaningful spaces.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned and reactive electrical maintenance across buildings and specialist facilities
  • Diagnose faults and complete repairs safely efficiently and in line with ACT regulations
  • Perform electrical testing including RCD testing test & tag and asset verification
  • Complete compliance documentation certificates and maintenance records accurately
  • Support emergency and after-hours works as part of a shared on-call roster
  • Coordinate with other trades and service partners to support integrated maintenance activities
  • Contribute to a safe respectful and customer-focused environment aligned with heritage requirements
  • Support apprentices and colleagues through guidance knowledge sharing and teamwork

Education Experience & Skills

Essential:

  • ACT Unrestricted Electrical Licence
  • Experience in maintenance-focused electrical work within commercial public-sector or heritage environments
  • Certificate III in Electrotechnology
  • Strong understanding of AS/NZS 3000 and relevant Australian electrical standards
  • Confidence completing compliance documentation and service records
  • Clear respectful communication skills and a customer-focused mindset

Desirable:

  • Experience in museums galleries government defence or other sensitive environments
  • Familiarity with lighting control systems
  • Experience mentoring apprentices or supporting developing technicians
  • Awareness of heritage building considerations and conservation practices

Workplace Flexibility

This position is based full-time on-site in Campbell ACT with free on-site parking and close access to public transport. Some flexibility in start and finish times is available to support operational needs.
