Whatsthe job
The Laboratory Technician plays a key role in supporting the delivery of high-quality safe and engaging learning experiences in specialist teaching laboratories across the Health and Education vertical. Working under the line management of the National Laboratory Manager and day-to-day supervision of a Laboratory Coordinator the Laboratory Technicianoperateswith a high degree of autonomy and technicalexpertisein ensuring resource readiness for laboratory classes as part of the laboratory team.
Principleaccountabilities(but not limited to):
Prepare laboratory environments and equipment in readiness for teaching sessions simulations and assessments.
Troubleshoot equipment issues promptlyadviselaboratory coordinator
Support Laboratory Coordinators in the development and refinement of standard operating procedures.
Assist the National Lab manager and/or the Laboratory Coordinator in daily operations supporting the team and potentially making decisions or taking charge of situations in the Laboratory Coordinators absence
Manage the setup and pack down of practical sessions ensuring all resources and equipment are prepared to specification and storedrecycledor disposed of appropriately after sessions.
Oversee stock usage andadviseLaboratory Coordinators on supply levels and reorder requirements.
Maintain cleansafeand functional lab spaces at all times ensuring alignment with WHS standards and accreditation requirements.

This is a permanent part-time position (22.8 hours per week) working Monday to Thursday for 5.7 hours per day based in Surry Hills Sydney.
As this role involves manual handling tasks the recruitment process will include a functional capability assessment for thepreferredcandidate. This step aligns with the updated procedures for this position.
Who you are:
Minimum of a Bachelor qualification in Health Sciences Biomedical Science Laboratory TechnologyNursingor a related discipline
2years experiencein a health clinical science or educational laboratory environment
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
Ability to schedule andprioritiseeffectively
Good communicationand interpersonal skills
Ability to work autonomously and with the team
Appropriately qualified in the relevant discipline for level of teaching (qualified to at least one Qualification Standards level higher than the course of study being taught)
Where an individual is not qualified to at least one Qualification Standard level higher equivalency must bedeterminedand approved by the Program Director
Sound understanding of current scholarship and/or professional practice in the discipline that is being taught
Understanding of pedagogical and/or adult learning principles relevant to the student cohort being taught
