Job Summary

The Suffolk Countys Bureau of Public Health Emergency Preparedness (PHEP) within the Health Departments Division of Public Health is seeking to fill the position of Emergency Preparedness Officer.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES::

  • Develop plans and conduct drills to ensure that Suffolk County is prepared to respond to a variety of public health emergencies.

  • Supports the mission through management of the Departments emergency preparedness assets attending planning meetings with local and state agencies and assisting with composition / revision of emergency plans and the conduction of drills.

Note: This position includes management/ organization of our emergency preparedness warehouse and operation of a forklift.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
OPEN COMPETITIVE

One Of The Following:

  • Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice Emergency Management Homeland Security or a related field

OR

  • Bachelors degree in any field plus one year of experience in emergency program planning emergency services training and/or fire safety management

OR

  • High school graduation or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and 5 years of experience in emergency program planning emergency services training and/or fire safety management.

This Role Is A Provisional Appointment

A provisional appointment which occurs only in the competitive class is a temporary appointment to a position for which no eligible list exists or for which an eligible list exists with fewer than three candidates who are willing to accept the order to become permanent the employee who is provisionally appointed must take the next examination for the position in question. The appointment to the position is then made from among the three highest scoring passing candidates who indicate their willingness to accept the position. Civil Service law does not compel the appointing authority to choose the provisional employee should he or she be one of the three candidates
