About Company: Our client is a leading Civil Engineering and Construction firm in Nigeria.
Job Purpose: The Mechanic Workshop Supervisor will manage plan control and organize the planned preventative and corrective mechanical maintenance on all the MTCC plant fleet and other equipment in order to maximize their lifespan and ensure safety. This role involves monitoring the performance of mechanical plant and machinery ensuring remedial work is undertaken to prevent failure/loss of the plant and equipment and the production of job sheets and allocating the work daily to the Mechanical Technicians monitoring progress and inspecting completed work to ensure the required standards are achieved
Key responsibilities:
Manage unplanned work resulting from breakdowns and emergencies making sure they are dealt with in an efficient manner by prioritizing as required for the provision of a 24-hour callout service.
Create and maintain a register of all workshop equipment to manage the timely calibration and maintenance of this equipment.
Ensure all lifting gear and workshop equipment is maintained to the highest possible standard (including wash bay and recycling shed).
Ensure all log books and departmental records are effectively maintained to enable stock control ordering of parts and all other workshop functions to operate efficiently.
Manage the vehicle cleaning program to meet the operational requirements.
Develop an environmental strategy for the workshop to include waste management recycling and reuse of oil.
Be prepared to step in and assist Mechanical Technicians in times of emergencies.
Prepare materials specification and order from stock or suppliers ensuring the best prices and delivery in accordance with MTCCs procurement procedures.
Manage the workshop budget by ensuring the above practices are followed and investigating any discrepancies.
Approve job sheets to ensure the correct allocation of time and materials has been recorded. Identify and deal with any potential disciplinary issues.
Ensure weekly timesheets are filled in correctly authorizing payment of wages and that the section runs smoothly dealing with any problems/issues that arise.
Develop a procedure for accidental damage to vehicles and equipment that is reported by staff including a reporting process review of the incident and suggested outcomes. Health and safety: establish implement and monitor safe working practices and procedures.
Requirements
Job Knowledge Work Experience and Qualifications
Degree Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering
Minimum 5 years experience
Should possess Excellent Interpersonal Communication problem-solving Solving and Conflict Resolution skills.
Must be computer literate with sufficient knowledge of Microsoft packages.
Role Specific KPIs:
Maintenance turnaround time (average time to complete repairs or servicing)
Workshop productivity rate (jobs completed per technician per day/week)
Compliance with maintenance standards/ITPs/SOPs
Accuracy of diagnostic assessments (first-time fix rate)
Customer/end-user satisfaction score
Adherence to the maintenance budget
Spare parts usage accuracy vs. projected usage
Reduction in wastage and unnecessary part replacements
Fuel oil and consumables management efficiency
Number of safety incidents in the workshop
