About Your Opportunity

As a Legal Counsel you will focus on maximising value to Seqwater and supporting the business in its objectives for sustainable development. The legal advice provided will range from high level strategic advice to detailed transactional advice and documentation across a broad legal spectrum.

Key responsibilities:

  • Provide expert legal advice on property planning environmental law including property transactions land use and tenure related matters environmental compliance and regulation development approvals and planning schemes
  • Provide advice and support the business in its compliance with Queensland legislation and regulatory frameworks ensuring strategic outcomes for the organisation.
  • Draft review and negotiate legal documents and commercial contracts delivering clear professional advice to internal stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and government agencies building and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships to support timely and effective service delivery.
  • Identify and manage legal risks staying abreast of legislative developments and advising on best-practice strategies .
  • Coordinate external legal providers and internal processes ensuring cost-effective performance accurate reporting and compliance with organisational policies and statutory obligations.

About you

To be successful in this role you will possess:

  • Tertiary qualification in Law with a current practising certificate and 35 years post-admission experience (PAE) in property planning and environmental law.
  • Experience working in or for a government agency and skills in utility infrastructure projects native title and cultural heritage while not mandatory will be desirable
  • Strong understanding of Queensland legislation regulatory frameworks and government processes with the ability to apply these in a commercial context.
  • Excellent drafting negotiation and communication skills including demonstrated ability to prepare legal advice contracts and other documents to a high standard.
  • Proven ability to manage competing priorities and deliver practical strategic solutions in a dynamic environment with limited supervision.
  • Highly developed analytical problem-solving and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build effective relationships and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • Commitment to confidentiality professional ethics and organisational values with a proactive approach to continuous improvement and risk management.

This role will be offered on a permanent full-time basis offering a competitive salary plus 12.75% superannuation.
