Position Summary
The Maintenance Generalist II provides general and preventative skilled maintenance services as needed and/or assigned; performing or assisting in a wide variety of maintenance activities (carpentry equipment building systems etc.); addressing immediate operational and/or life safety concerns; assisting and performing skilled trades as needed (general electrical plumbing HVAC).
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Performs a wide variety of general and skilled maintenance activities (e.g. carpentry painting doors and locks (life safety) plumbing electrical HVAC kitchen equipment various building-systems etc.)
- Repairs and assembles furniture for the purpose of ensuring safe working conditions
- Performs preventative maintenance and inspections for the purpose of ensuring compliance with life safety codes efficient and effective functioning of equipment tools and/or systems
- Installs system components classroom and office equipment and facility components (e.g. lighting heating and ventilating systems plumbing electrical etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and efficient learning environment
- Prepares written materials (e.g. repair status and work orders etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and/or conveying information
- Participates in meetings workshops trainings and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions
- Maintains assigned tools and equipment for the purpose of ensuring safe operating condition.
- Coordinates with assigned supervisor(s) for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently
- Responds to maintenance emergency situations during standard work and after work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate concerns
- Assist with minor snow removal as needed
- Work collaboratively with others (e.g. colleagues stakeholders vendors) to accomplish functions and responsibilities
- Additional duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.
Required Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent plus additional specialized training
- Three years in related area
- Valid state drivers license
- EPA Type II Refrigerant Usage certification or ability to obtain within 1 (one) year of employment preferred.
Skills and Specifications:- Ability to learn technical applications
- Ability to grow with technology and best practices implemented by the College
- General knowledge of carpentry plumbing and electrical systems required
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Specific skill-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job to include but not limited to: Operating equipment and tools used in skilled trades manuals computer systems and software literacy (e-mail work order and building automation systems etc.)
- Ability to maintain required licenses and certifications
- Ability to read blueprints in various formats
- Ability to adhere to safety practices (e.g. OSHA Standards proper handling of hazardous materials proper use of personal protective equipment proper lifting techniques and proper use of ladders and lifts etc.)
- Able to plan and manage projects under the direction of the supervisor.
- Ability to communicate clearly and/or present information to others; and understand complex written and verbal instructions
- Be able to perform basic math functions
- Ability to work within a scheduled timeframe to complete projects and assignments
- Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances
- Work with data utilizing specific defined processes and operate equipment using industry standard methods
- Ability to work safely with heights up to 30 feet ability to move and safely lift 75 lbs. unassisted and work out of doors in inclement weather
- Ability to perform physical activities such as but not limited to bending standing climbing or walking
- Operate manual and power equipment using industry standard methods of safety
- Responsible trustworthy thorough and committed
- Organizational skills self-directed and self-motivated
- Ability to smell hear and speak
