The Mead Witter School of Music at the University of Wisconsin-Madison invites applications for a 100%-time Double Bass Teaching Faculty. This position is a non-tenure track one-year temporary position with the possibility of a one-year renewal or it may become a permanent position based on funding and departmental need. This appointment will begin in the fall semester of 2026 with a start date of August 17 2026.
Preference will be given to candidates with experience of successful teaching at the advanced level and significant experience in the field of double bass performance. We seek a colleague who will join a nationally renowned faculty and staff and contribute to our program through teaching courses that develop and support a wide range of musical endeavors.
The instructor in this position will be expected to perform the following duties:
Instruction:
Teach students in the double bass studio which will include jazz and classical students and may include Doctoral students and/or dissertators.
Teach a weekly studio class and one jazz area studio class annually
Teach jazz and/or classical ensembles each semester
Teach classes as workload allows and as assigned
Hold regular office hours
Department/Area Responsibilities:
Attend all departmental and area meetings as required
Participate in recruitment activities for the for the double bass classical/jazz studio
Participate in undergraduate juries for the string and jazz areas
Attend graduate and undergraduate audition days
Participate in ensemble placement auditions
Supervise teaching assistants

The expected salary for this position is $57000 (9-month) for highly experienced candidates. Actual pay will be based on experience and qualifications.
