Position: School Nurse School : Somerville Reports to: PrincipalPosition SummaryThe School Nurse promotes the health safety and well-being of all students and staff within the Catholic school community. This position supports the mission and values of the school by providing compassionate care health education and medical expertise consistent with Catholic ResponsibilitiesStudent Health ServicesProvide direct nursing care to students including assessment treatment and daily sick visits injuries and emergency medications and maintain accurate medication and manage chronic health conditions (e.g. asthma diabetes allergies).Develop and implement individualized healthcare plans (IHPs) and emergency action plans (EAPs).Maintain confidential student health records in compliance with state laws and & Safety ComplianceEnsure all student immunization records meet State and diocesan annual screenings (vision hearing BMI and others as required).Maintain first aid supplies AEDs and emergency response materials throughout the communicable disease reporting and procedures as required by local health or support school-wide emergency response including CPR and first aid trainingCollaboration & CommunicationCommunicate with parents/guardians regarding student health needs illnesses injuries and medical with teachers and staff to support student health and safety in the classroom cafeteria recess and school with administration to develop policies and procedures that promote a healthy school as a liaison between the school and external healthcare by a nurseHealth Education & WellnessPromote health hygiene nutrition and disease prevention consistent with a Catholic staff training on bloodborne pathogens allergy protocols medical emergencies and wellness school wellness initiatives and contribute to curriculum where Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) depending on state requirements; RN CPR/AED and First Aid in pediatric school or community nursing strongly communication organization and record-keeping to act with compassion confidentiality and to supporting and modeling the mission and values of a Catholic ScheduleFollows the academic calendar with occasional additional hours for trainings screenings or school -time or full-time based on school RequirementsAbility to respond quickly to to lift up to 40 lbs. kneel bend and assist students physically when needed.
