Transylvania University invites applications for the position of Student Success Coach. The Student Success Coach will assist students developing the skills and tools necessary to have a positive college experience. Through one-on-one support coaches will help students strive for success by engaging students in goal setting identifying and overcoming educational barriers and obstacles motivating students through relationship building monitoring student progress on goals and supporting students in their academic persistence. The coach will develop support systems to meet student needs by identifying and coordinating a variety of available services.
Through the use of motivational interviewing and with an understanding of case management students will be supported in reaching their goals and challenged to advocate for themselves and gain an understanding of resources on and off campus.
Additionally the coach will develop prepare and present training and educational programs/workshops as requested. The coach will establish build and maintain positive working relationships with campus partners. Through on-going wellness checks and consultation with other staff this position will provide wrap-around services for students who may or may not also choose to engage in counseling services. The goal of coaching is to identify and connect students to available resources in order to optimize their college experience.
Essential Duties
- Serves as coordinator of the CARE Team at the University
- Challenges students to identify their strengths and areas of growth and create plans to help them develop as students leaders and community members.
- Connects students to clubs organizations and student life resources to create a full campus experience for students.
- Coordinates student referrals to services as needed
- Facilitate conversations about financial solvency in college and assist students with decisions surrounding on- and off-campus employment and other financial concerns given a comprehensive outlook on students circumstances
- Assists students in developing self-efficacy as members of the Transy community including a healthy residential life experience appropriate engagement in student organizations or athletics and overall good campus citizenship
- Collaborate with external/internal campus partners to develop a comprehensive multidisciplinary approach to promote a healthy campus community for students.
- Perform on-going wellness checks for students of concern providing consultation with staff regarding coordination of services
- Advocate for students while setting realistic expectations and challenging students to take an active role in their educational experience.
- Conducts coaching through individual or group sessions that help students assess their own performance and develop success plans coordinating with the academic adviser and ACE
- Monitors progress of students in caseload with check-ins scheduled meetings or proactive outreach and communication responding to students questions concerns and needs
- Provides assistance to students and instructors together with CAAS to problem solve issues that arise related to progress towards academic goals persistence and attendance
Secondary Duties:
- Serves on call as part of the student life staff rotation
Experience Required
- Bachelors Degree required; preferred fields are education counseling psychology or a related field
- Experience working with tutoring mentoring student success retention or other student support areas
