Sessional Academic Lecturer in Information Technology (IT)

VU Brisbane is a new campus designed to cater for international undergraduate and postgraduate students who want to study Business IT and Early Childhood programs. Students at VU Brisbane experience a smarter more engaging way to study with the award-winning VU Block Model completing one subject at a time. Students learn in interactive workshop-style classes where they get to know their teacher and classmates put theory into practice apply their knowledge to real-world scenarios and receive fast feedback on their assessments.

We are seeking suitably qualified and experienced individuals for several sessional Academic Lecturer roles to teach units (face-to-face and hybrid delivery) within our Bachelor of IT Bachelor of Cyber Security and Master of Applied Information Technology courses. If you have appropriate academic qualifications and teaching and/or industry experience and have what it takes to be a part of dynamic teaching team of VU Brisbane we would like to hear from you.

You will be required to have subject expertise in one or more of the following areas:

Areas of Subject Expertise

• Cyber Security and Network Security
• Deep Learning Data Science and Business Data Analytics
• Programming (Python / Java) Software Development and Software Engineering
• Mobile and Cloud Application Development

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide high quality lecturing/tutoring to students in accordance with VU curricula.
• Manage VU Collaborate (VUs online learning system) for your unit/s.
• Create and maintain an innovative learning environment for students to meet learning outcomes and satisfactorily complete their assessment tasks.
• Identify students who are at risk of failing a unit and assist them via the appropriate referral to Course Coordinator (IT) / Learning Support Advisor.
• Participate in staff meetings and professional development sessions.
• Provide on-going student support both face to face and online through email/VU collaborate online learning system.
• Assure the quality of the assessment and examination processes as directed by the Associate Director Academic / Course Coordinator (IT).
• Support the Associate Director Academic / Course Coordinator (IT) when required through administrative requirements and completion of reports.
• Adhere to VU policies and procedures as instructed by the relevant Associate Director Academic.
• Ensure Victoria University courses are offered in compliance with all legislative and quality requirements particularly those prescribed by the ESOS Act.

As the successful candidate you will ideally have:

• Postgraduate level qualification (PhD is essential for any postgraduate teaching) in a relevant discipline
• Experience in teaching university level courses
• Excellent written and oral communication skills
• Experience with international students
• Relevant professional and/or industry experience
• Graduate certificate in tertiary teaching (desirable)
• Cisco CCNA and/or CCNP certification (desirable)
• Membership with relevant professional bodies (desirable)
