Rate of Pay: 14.13 - 18.29 per hour
Summary:
As a Property Maintenance Officer within the Refugee Resettlement and Migration Service you will support the preparation and maintenance of housing for families arriving from conflict-affected regions. This is an active hands-on role that requires strong practical skills the ability to work collaboratively and a commitment to providing safe suitable accommodation to vulnerable families resettling in West Sussex. You will work closely with the Property Preparation Officer and wider team to ensure all property preparation tasks are completed efficiently safely and to a high standard.
The role is primarily field-based and physically demanding involving regular travel across the county furniture handling basic repairs and general maintenance tasks.
Responsibilities:
- Support the Property Preparation Officer in delivering essential housing preparation and maintenance activities across various properties.
- Prepare accommodation to an appropriate standard for incoming refugee and resettled families.
- Provide effective customer service when interacting with households colleagues partner agencies and members of the public.
- Load unload and transport items safely using a Council-provided vehicle.
- Work cooperatively with a second team member during property visits and manual handling tasks.
- Ensure safe working practices at all times including adherence to manual-handling and health and safety procedures.
Requirements:
- Practical working knowledge of general property maintenance tasks (e.g. assembly basic repairs decorating).
- Understanding of safe manual handling and health & safety considerations.
- Good level of spoken English to effectively communicate with the public and service users.
Experiences:
- Experience completing hands-on practical maintenance or facilities-related work.
- Experience working in a customer-facing role demonstrating professionalism and empathy.
- Experience working as part of a team particularly within manual or mobile working environments.

- You should have right to work in U.K
- This role requires an Enhanced DBS
