The School of Education at California State University San Marcos invites applications for an instructor position to teach EDSS 591-3 Secondary Art Education.

Course Description

This methods course provides a foundation in the teaching and assessment of visual arts at the secondary level aligned with state and national standards. It examines the field of art education through its literature theories philosophies and emerging trends while emphasizing the importance of the visual arts in the public-school curriculum. The course integrates demonstrations lectures and discussions with hands-on experiences in art processes lesson planning classroom management and assessment. Though not a studio art course students engage in creative projects within a studio-like environment that supports exploration and application of effective art teaching strategies.

Minimum qualifications:

  • A masters in arts education visual arts or a closely related field.
  • Per California State Universitys Out-of-State Employment Policy the CSU is prohibited from hiring employees to perform CSU-related work outside California. Working in the State of California is a condition of employment.

Preferred qualifications:

  • A doctorate terminal degree or equivalent and experience teaching in higher education.
  • Familiarity with contemporary issues scholarship and research in art education.
  • Demonstrated experience with lesson design assessment and classroom management for diverse learners.
  • Experience integrating technology and interdisciplinary approaches in art instruction.
  • Valid California Single Subject Teaching Credential in Art (or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching visual arts at the secondary level (middle or high school).
  • Knowledge of California and national visual arts standards.
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity diversity and inclusion in education.
  • Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate intercultural competence and a commitment to serving a diverse campus community as it relates to teaching and as applicable service.

Salary commensurate with degree level and experience

  • AnticipatedHiring Salary Range: $5507 - $8000 per full-time month

The salary schedule information for the Lecturer Academic Year Classification is available based on the following ranges:

  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer A - AY: $5507 - $6677 per full-time month
  • CSU Classification Salary RangeLecturer B - AY: $6221 - $13224 per full-time month

The anticipated hiring range is generally at or near the minimum of the appropriate range commensurate with education and experience.
