Notre Dame de Sion High School an independent Catholic and interfaith school in Kansas City serves approximately 320 young women through a rigorous college-preparatory curriculum and innovative experiential learning. Rooted in the values of love respect openness and hope Sion empowers students to grow in confidence and use their gifts to create a more just and compassionate world.
With small class sizes and a relationship-based approach faculty foster intellectual social and spiritual growth. Educators collaborate across disciplines contribute to vibrant student life and shape a culture of belonging and curiosity.
Sion seeks a dynamic visionary Principal to lead the high school beginning June 1 2026. Reporting to the President and serving on the Senior Leadership Team the Principal oversees strategic and operational leadership for 323 students and 45 faculty and staff in grades 912.
Responsibilities - Provide visionary academic leadership ensuring excellence in curriculum instruction and faculty development.
- Recruit supervise and evaluate faculty and staff; oversee scheduling academic programs and student assessment.
- Foster a positive inclusive student culture aligned with Catholic values; support student life programs and campus safety.
- Build strong relationships with parents and the community through transparent communication and engagement.
- Collaborate with Admissions and Philanthropy teams to support enrollment marketing and advancement initiatives.
- Model Catholic faith and integrate mission into all aspects of school life; lead retreats liturgies and service programs.
- Manage budgets and daily operations in partnership with school leadership; ensure compliance and strategic alignment.
- Report to the President and Board; lead strategic planning accreditation and initiatives tied to the schools vision.
Qualifications:
- Practicing Catholic with a strong commitment to faith-based education.
- Experienced educator and proven instructional leader with demonstrated success in faculty development academic innovation student life community engagement and strategic planning.
- Undergraduate and advanced degree required.
- State-approved administrative credential preferred.
- At least five years of administrative experience is highly preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with students parents faculty and staff; skilled at reading social cues and group dynamics to foster a positive school environment.
- Proven track record of managing complex workloads prioritizing effectively and balancing competing priorities without compromising quality.
- Experience in cultivating team morale and creating a collaborative mission-driven school culture.
- Exceptional communication skills both written and verbal with experience engaging parents and community stakeholders in meaningful ways.
- Deep understanding of curriculum and instruction with the ability to advance teaching and learning; high school experience required middle school experience preferred.
- Ability to analyze and synthesize data to inform decisions identify key levers for improvement and drive measurable outcomes.
- Commitment to the schools mission and values with demonstrated ability to integrate them into leadership practices.
- Proven success leading across lines of difference and fostering an inclusive environment; experience implementing DEI initiatives in educational settings.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods (e.g. working at a desk attending meetings).
- Ability to move about the campus to observe classrooms attend events and interact with students and staff.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person and by phone including clear verbal and auditory communication.
- Ability to lift and carry materials (up to 20 lbs) for events meetings or classroom activities.
- Ability to attend and participate in school functions including evening and weekend events.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations including walking or standing for extended periods.
- Visual acuity to read printed materials and computer screens and to supervise students in various settings.
