Job Summary

SECONDARY GUIDANCE COUNSELOR

High School

2026-2027 School Year

PRIMARY PURPOSE

Plan implement and evaluate a comprehensive school counseling program at assigned campus. Counsel students to fully develop each students academic career personal and social abilities and address the needs of special population students. Deliver guidance curriculum in various group sizes. Educate students of skills necessary to address troublesome circumstances support students in challenging situations and assist students with needed resources to navigate crisis situations.

QUALIFICATIONS

Masters degree in Counseling from an accredited college or university
Valid Texas School Counselor certificate as required by the State Board of Education Certification
Three years teaching experience
Knowledge of counseling procedures student appraisal and preparation for post-secondary opportunities and development
Thorough understanding of school operations
Strong Organizational communication and interpersonal skills

RESPONSIBILITIES

Provide guidance and counseling services conducive to all students achieving their individual potential academically socially and emotionally.
Provide guidance to individuals and groups of students to facilitate the development of educational goals and a post-secondary awareness plan.
Address problems which prevent or interfere with student learning.
Implement the school guidance and counseling program to support the district mission goals and plans.
Provide consultation to school administrators teachers staff students and parents regarding the personal social and emotional needs of students.
Provide individual / group counseling for at-risk students.
Provide support for new and returning students.
Raise the level of understanding among all staff about SEL-based approaches for working with individual students.
Interpret test results and other assessment data to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.
Compile maintain and file reports records and other documents as required.
Partipate in planning and evaluation of campus standardized testing program.
Maintain confidentiality of student assessment.
