Job Summary

As a Graduate Diagnostic Engineer you will join the Sensors & Control Unit within the Plasma Science & Operations Division supporting the engineering and integration of diagnostic systems across UKAEA and for national and international partners. You will create innovative design solutions for complex diagnostic and fusion systems perform engineering calculations to inform design decisions plan and manage system or component repairs upgrades and replacements produce high-quality technical reports and ensure compliance with relevant design standards.

Your core responsibilities:

  • Work with colleagues in the Experiments Department to act as a Responsible Officer for the engineering design of diagnostics and related components.
  • Produce technical specifications and associated tender or contract documentation.
  • Lead and coordinate the work of the drawing office and organise or participate in design reviews.
  • Oversee assembly and installation activities on JET and MAST.
  • Prepare work procedures risk assessments and other Safe System of Work documentation.

Qualifications :

  • Degree in Science or Engineering from 2025 or 26
  • Confident with all Microsoft applications including Excel Word and Powerpoint
  • Driven with a strong appetite to learn and take on new challenges
  • Able to collaborate effectively and communicate clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Well organised and adaptable with the ability to plan and prioritise workload
