Senior Accountant

Location: Sheffield / South Yorkshire
Salary: up to 50000 (DOE)
Job Type: Full-time Permanent

The role of Senior Accounts offers exposure to an exceptionally varied workload where no two days are the same. You will be stepping into a position that provides real autonomy allowing you to manage your own portfolio and take ownership of client relationships from day one. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in a smaller practice environment enjoys both accounts and tax work and wants the opportunity to be involved across all aspects of client compliance and advisory support rather than being limited to a single discipline.

Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare statutory accounts for limited companies sole traders and partnerships under relevant reporting standards.

  • Manage a mixed portfolio of clients delivering bookkeeping VAT returns payroll and annual accounts.

  • Prepare and submit self-assessment tax returns (personal partnership and trust) as well as corporation tax returns.

  • Provide tax planning support for small business owners and self-employed clients.

  • Liaise with HMRC on behalf of clients and manage ongoing compliance requirements.

  • Communicate clearly with clients offering guidance on tax and accounting matters.

  • Support and mentor junior members of the team when required.

  • Maintain high standards of accuracy and compliance across all work.

Skills & Experience Required

  • 4 years of experience working within an accountancy practice (essential).

  • Strong background in both accounts preparation and personal/business tax.

  • Confident managing a varied portfolio of SME clients.

  • Proficient with cloud accounting and bookkeeping software (Xero QuickBooks Sage etc.).

  • Strong communication skills and the ability to explain tax and accounting matters in a clear client-friendly manner.

  • Highly organised proactive and able to manage your workload independently.

  • Qualified or Qualified by Experience considered.
