The Peer Support Specialist Rural Sites (Iowa CCBHC) is a fully integrated team member who provides highly individualized services across the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC) model. This position is based out of the Harlan IA office and requires regular travel throughout Southwest Iowa.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION OF WORK
A person in recovery from a serious mental illness and/or substance use will hold this position. The Peer Support Specialist supports client self-determination engagement recovery and whole-health wellness. Peer Support Specialists use their lived experience to assist clients in building skills connecting socially and developing goals. This position requires strong interpersonal skills sound judgment and the ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams.
Compensation: Wage is based on total years of relevant experience
Work Schedule: 37.5 hours per week (Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.)

- Appropriate training through the Iowa Peer Workforce Collaborative
- Wellness Recovery Action Planning (WRAP) training preferred
- Two years of paid or volunteer experience with individuals with SPMI/Substance use
- Valid drivers license and acceptable driving record
- Ability to travel throughout Southwest Iowa
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Can speak to the experience of others with SPMI and provide support.
- Engages clients in their recovery journey.
- Provides individual and group services in office community and rural settings.
- Teaches symptom management and supports whole-health wellness.
- Meets service standards and completes documentation in a timely manner.
- Provides care coordination and connects clients with rural resources.
- Maintains a welcoming trauma-informed environment.
- Leads social recreational and skill-building groups.
- Participates in case consultations and multidisciplinary discussions.
- Maintains strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Documents client progress using agency systems.
- Assists with independent living skill development.
- Supports clients in connecting with healthcare providers.
- Encourages clients to pursue community and leisure activities.
- Displays a courteous caring attitude with clients and staff.
- Collaborates with program staff CCBHC teams and community partners.
- Maintains dependable attendance.
- Abides by all agency policies and procedures.
- Creates and maintains a personal self-care plan.
- Builds connections with rural communities.
- Performs duties related to rural outreach engagement and travel.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
