Entry Level Civil Engineer Aviation

AECOM is seeking an Entry Level Civil Engineer - Aviation to be based in Hunt Valley / Balitmore MD. 

This position is open to Spring and Winter 2026 graduates and will begin as soon as available in our Transportation Aviation Business Line.

Unlike traditional civil engineering roles this position focuses on airportsdesigning and improving runways taxiways aprons and terminals. Youll collaborate with senior engineers (ranging from 1 to 40 years of experience) gain mentorship and work on major projects at some of the largest airports in the Mid-Atlantic region. This role offers structured career growth exposure to fast-paced aviation projects and a clear path toward PE licensure.

The position involves planning design engineering and construction for airport projects dealing with airfield safety standards improvement and expansion programs. Design work includes airfield planning layout and site design earthwork analyses and design hydrologic and hydraulic analyses and design pavement design and maintenance construction safety and phasing aircraft layouts and modeling storm water management design erosion and sediment control design utility coordination and design environmental permitting and preparation of construction plans specifications schedules design reports and cost estimates. Construction work includes construction administration and management including shop drawing review responding to contractor questions and construction inspection.  The Aviation Engineering Group interacts with and is supported by many other in-house disciplines including Planners Architects Mechanical Electrical Structural Civil Environmental Geotechnical and Special Systems Engineers in typical projects supporting our airport clients.

The responsibilities of this position include but are not limited to:

• Conducts civil engineering design for airport projects.
• Completes designs calculations sketches diagrams schematics and final working drawings for preparation of construction plans related to airport development projects including runways taxiways aprons hangars terminals and other airport facilities.
• Prepares construction specifications for airport development projects per FAA Advisory Circular 150/5370-10 and State requirements.
• Prepares design reports schedules quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
• Collects and analyzes data to support design and construction phases of projects.
• Uses various computer software for design development and prepares plans in Civil 3D.
• Coordinates and collaborates with other airport/civil engineering architectural and engineering disciplines sub-consultants Utility companies permitting agencies contractors government and regulatory agencies and clients.
• Performs construction administration and construction inspection.
• Performs work in accordance with agreed-upon budget and schedule.

Qualifications :

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
• Due to the nature of work U.S. Citizenship is required for this role.
• Valid US Drivers License required to visit project sites clients and other AECOM offices. As a condition of employment selected candidate must pass a Motor Vehicle Records review.
• As a condition of employment candidate must pass client required background check(s).

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Microsoft Office Software.
• Experience using AutoCAD/Civil 3D design software.
• Experience in performing construction administration and inspection.
• Read write and communicate effectively in the English language.
• Ability to work in both an office and field (construction) environment.
