Campus Recreation Outdoor Pursuits (OP) Coordinator
Nine-Month Contract Position
Position Title:
Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator (temporary hourly nine-month appointment)
Contract Term:
This position is a ninemonth appointment with renewal contingent upon both performance and staffing needs. At the conclusion of the appointment a threemonth break in service is required before reappointment. The role is nonbenefits eligible and enrollment in PERA is required.
Position Overview
The Outdoor Pursuits Coordinator supports the mission of Campus Recreation (CR) by providing safe skill-based and educational outdoor experiences for the Auraria Campus community. Individuals in this role are responsible for participant safety planning and facilitating outdoor outings maintaining equipment and assisting with the daily operations of the Outdoor Pursuits Center (OPC). Coordinators/guides serve as leaders educators and ambassadors of outdoor recreation and experiential learning.
Wage
$20.00 per hour
Specific Job Responsibilities
Program Leadership & Facilitation
Lead and participate in single-day weekend and multi-day OP outings
Plan outings including route selection logistics and risk assessment
Teach outdoor skills in various environments
Lead groups in teambuilding or leadership development activities
Implement safety practices to minimize risks for participants and staff
Evaluate outings and provide constructive feedback to fellow staff
Customer Service & Participant Support
Respond to participant questions or refer individuals to appropriate staff
Support equitable and inclusive participation in OP programs
Operations & Facility Support
Perform duties in the rental shop including equipment maintenance and customer relations
Clean and maintain OPC facilities
Operate State vehicles in accordance with State policy
Attend scheduled OPC staff meetings
Assist with workshop facilitation on assigned topics
Marketing & Outreach
Develop promotional materials
Post flyers and assist with program marketing efforts
Staff Development
Train new staff as needed
Contribute to a supportive growth-oriented team culture
Other Duties
Perform additional responsibilities as assigned to support OP and Campus Recreation operations
Minimum Requirements
Current First Aid and CPR certification (may be provided by CR)
Demonstrated interest in outdoor learning teaching and leadership
Willingness to learn and share skills in supportive group settings
Preferred Qualifications
Strong communication supervision teamwork and interpersonal skills
Ability to work professionally with diverse participants colleagues and community members
Ability to remain calm and effective under stressful outdoor conditions
Critical thinking and adaptability
Commitment to high-quality customer service
Additional Skills or Experience (Preferred or Able to Develop in OP)
Experience leading groups in wilderness settings
Experience working with diverse populations
Knowledge of experiential learning and outdoor education theories
Knowledge of adult learning practices
Wilderness First Responder or Wilderness First Aid certification
