Job Summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The New York City Department of Correction is seeking highly motivated collaborative and goal-oriented candidate to join the Strategic Initiatives Unit in the role of Project Coordinator for the Project Management team. Strategic Initiatives plays a key role in the planning and implementation of large-scale innovative projects and reform initiatives in support of the Departments mission. These may include short-term high-impact Department-specific initiatives as well as long-term mega-projects requiring coordination with both internal and external stakeholders. The selected candidates responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:

-Providing continuous administrative support to the project team with a high degree
of initiative judgment and discretion;
-Managing a complex schedule for all supervisors and handling frequent reprioritizations
that will often require independent decision-making;
-Coordinating resources and logistics for all meetings tours and other events including
transportation security clearances food orders etc.;
-Preparing project status reports presentations agendas meeting minutes and maintaining
applicable supporting documents;
-Tracking the execution of critical processes across project operations;
-Proactively managing project outcomes;
-Identifying opportunities for process improvement and efficiencies;
-Building and maintaining effective relationships with a wide range of individuals including
internal and external stakeholders;
-Developing expertise in jail operations correctional best practices and national reform efforts;
-Performing other generalized administrative tasks including data entry filing preparation of
materials etc.
-Performing special projects and related duties as assigned.


Preferred Skills

-Exceptional organizational skills including the ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
simultaneously while meeting deadlines;
-Excellent writing and verbal communication skills and attention to detail;
-Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook Word Excel PowerPoint Teams
OneDrive Project etc.);
-Ability and willingness to take initiative and work collaboratively;
-Adaptable and comfortable navigating through gray areas and devising solutions to changing
project demands;

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 or 2 above. However all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in 1 above.
