Principal Civil Engineer

Toole Design Group in Portland ME is looking to hire an experienced and talented full-time Principal Civil Engineer. A Day in the Life of a Principal Engineer

As a Principal Engineer you will lead and mentor an interdisciplinary team to deliver multimodal transportation infrastructure in a wide range of contexts from roadway reconstructions and streetscapes in highly urban settings to signature trail projects in suburban and rural areas that highlight and enhance the natural environment. You use programs like AutoCAD in order to fulfill production work on your projects as needed and/or supervise others doing that production work. You will manage projects and guide your team through design development design review bid package development permitting and answering questions during construction. You will work with your team to ensure that our projects are consistently of the highest quality.

Youll be at the table with clients and colleagues from a variety of disciplines delivering projects to construction. You will play a key role in implementing the firms quality initiatives and in supporting business development and project an industry that is constantly changing youll be at the forefront of delivering creative solutions to challenging projects.

We are targeting a salary range of $175000-$200000 for this position.

Work Schedule for a Principal Engineer

This full-time position typically works a hybrid schedule of 40 hours a week with three days in the office. We provide employees with the necessary equipment to work from home.

Qualifications of a Principal Civil Engineer:

• A Professional Engineering license in Maine (other Northeast states a plus)
• A bachelors or masters degree in civil engineering or relevant field
• At least 15 years of relevant engineering experience

It would be a plus if you had some of the following:

• At least 5 years serving in a project manager or design lead role preferably for northeast-based clients with a proven track record of delivering multiple large/complex projects on time and on budget
• A broad knowledge base in civil engineering with specific experience in roadway design drainage design geometric design 3D modeling and design of accessible public spaces
• Proficiency in Computer Automated Design (AutoCAD or MicroStation) and design software (Civil 3D GEOPAK or InRoads)
• Experience analyzing and designing stormwater infrastructure including the use of stormwater design software such as HydroCAD or HydroFlow
• Experience developing construction documents and providing construction management services
• Experience in preparing transportation and local agency permit documents
• General experience leading multidisciplinary teams coordinating utility and right-of-way impacts street lighting traffic signal and landscape/hardscape layout
• Interest in multimodal and active transportation design
