We invite online applications from our currently serving Communications members for one (1) full-time Communicator Trainer position.



Level 9A: $72338 through to $96451 (2025 Salary Range). Salary is currently under review for this position.

PURPOSE OF POSITION

Under the direction of the Communications Section Manager this role is responsible for strengthening the capabilities of team members by designing delivering and evaluating training programs for both new and experienced Communicators.

The position ensures that all employees within the Communications area are informed and proficient in current procedures directives and best practices. The individual will be accountable for assessing training needs implementing effective learning solutions and maintaining up-to-date policies and procedures that align with legislative requirements.

Shall in the performance of duties respect and protect human dignity and maintain and uphold the human rights of all persons.

SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Design and maintain a comprehensive training program for both new and existing Communicators including lesson plans manuals training documents observation reports tools and performance benchmarks.
  • Schedule and deliver training for new Communicators across all roles (Call Taker CPIC Dispatch).
  • Coordinate and schedule training sessions for existing Communicators and deliver instruction as required.
  • Oversee trainees during onboarding and evaluate progress and performance.
  • Conduct skill assessments for new members and provide written evaluations to the Communications Manager.
  • Deliver remedial training as needed to support performance improvement.
  • Coordinate guest lecturers and specialized training sessions when required.
  • Research and recommend external training opportunities through the Ontario Police College and other relevant organizations.
  • Develop and maintain a reference library of videos audio files training materials and other resources for Communicators.
  • Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot minor technical issues with dispatch equipment computer systems telephones and radio systems.
  • Be available to perform full Communicator duties including answering calls supporting officers and updating information in systems when required.
  • Attend mandatory training sessions as directed.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Knowledge


  • Demonstrated understanding of the organizations structure Routine Orders policies procedures and operational practices relevant to assigned duties.
  • Strong working knowledge of police information systems and related processes including but not limited to Niche Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) radio communications NG9-1-1 phone systems and other communication technologies.
  • Proficiency in standard office applications and communications software.
  • Accurate and efficient data entry skills with attention to detail.

  • Ability to adhere to policies and take direction from a Supervisor or Manager.
  • Ability to observe retain and prepare clear concise and accurate reports and operate communications and general office equipment.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with people at all levels of comprehension and to handle the public with courtesy and authority.
  • Must be capable of handling multi-tasks produce work under strict and definitive deadlines
  • All other qualifications the position justifies.
