We seek a talented individual to join the Porter Creek Secondary School team. PCSS is a comprehensive school with a wide variety of hands-on opportunities for students. PCSS displays excellence in Athletics Arts and Academics. We are located on the traditional territories of the Kwanlin Dün First Nation and the Taan Kwächän Council.

This position provides the opportunity to join a dynamic inclusive staff team that is dedicated to student success and understands the significance of working with families our community and First Nations to deliver on that promise. This 1.0 FTE Special Education support teacher role will involve supporting learners in our Special Education classrooms and working with students in small groups or individually in other classrooms.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

Please clearly demonstrate on your cover letter and resume how you meet the following qualifications and experience:

  • Experience with implementing Individual Education Plans and Student Learning Plans
  • Experience working as part of a team with a student centered perspective
  • Post Graduate coursework in Special Education is an asset
  • Experience participating in case management as part of a multi-disciplinary school-based team for students with diverse learning needs
  • Experience with First Nations ways of Knowing Doing and Being to support and instruct students academically socially and behaviourally

DESIRED KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND SUITABILITY:

Candidates should have and may be assessed on their:

  • Interest in working with other teachers to collaborate and work collectively toward student success.
  • Experience teaching or providing culturally and developmentally responsive approaches for positive behaviour
  • Experience with transition planning and supporting students with complex exceptional needs

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:

  • Criminal Record/RCMP Check with Vulnerable Sector; to be provided before the first day of employment dated no more than 3 months prior to your start date
  • Yukon Teacher Certification; learn about the certification process here
