REFUGEE SCHOOL IMPACT TUTOR
POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position: Part-time Tutor
Reports to: Refugee School Impact Coordinator Student Programming Coordinator Director of Federal Programs
Terms of Employment:
Pay Grade: Hourly 19.5 hours a week
Pay Range: up to $23 an hour
FLSA Status: Exempt
Nature of Work
The Refugee School Impact Tutor will collaborate with teachers to effectively provide in-school academic help to refugee students. The Refugee School Impact Tutor will supplement the instruction students receive in class help students complete homework and guide students toward study practices that will encourage long-term success. The tutor will collaborate at the school level with the ESOL teacher to support students and improve student achievement.
Education and Experience
- Associates degree or higher from a regionally accredited college or university
- Teaching experience
- Basic knowledge of refugees
Essential Functions/Typical Tasks
- Support and work with ESOL teacher to assist with instruction of refugee
students
- Review the cultural background of refugee students their unique educational needs and other information as specific needs arise.
- Assist refugee students in the development of reading writing speaking and listening as well as academic vocabulary
- Engage in academic activities with select students (individually or in small groups)
- Utilize assessment information before during and after instruction to guide instructional design.
- Monitors students progress
- Monitors student attendance
- Coordinates with and makes referrals to the Refugee School Impact Coordinator when student needs extend beyond academics (parent-teacher conferences school supplies well-being etc.)
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Must be self-motivated self-directed collaborative flexible and highly organized.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with teachers
administrators Refugee School Impact Coordinator and other personnel.
- Ability to work with a variety of staff programs and activities.
- Understand the growth and development of students in assigned school.
Physical Requirements
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing balancing stooping kneeling crouching crawling reaching standing walking pushing lifting grasping talking hearing and repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform medium work exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to operate required office equipment and inspect work for accuracy thoroughness and adherence to work standards and instructions.
