The role
As a Senior Policy and Programs Officer youll support councils to meet their legislative and other responsibilities. Youll be diving into policy analysis coordinating projects and offering expert advice to help shape and deliver programs that support local government reform. Whether its preparing reports managing stakeholder consultations or improving systems like the NSW Pet Registry your work will directly contribute to better outcomes for communities and their companion animals.

Youll need to juggle a range of tasks often complex and time-sensitive while staying across the latest developments in local government and animal welfare. Its a role that calls for sharp research skills clear communication and the ability to bring people together to get things done.

What you will bring to the role

  • Experience in policy development and analysis within a government or regulatory setting particularly relating to local government or animal welfare.
  • Proficiency in coordinating multi-stakeholder consultations and working groups to support policy and program delivery.
  • Ability to manage and interpret program data to track progress identify emerging issues and inform decision-making.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written to effectively convey ideas and collaborate with team members.
  • Outstanding stakeholder engagement skills fostering strong relationships and ensuring alignment with diverse stakeholders to achieve outcomes.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and adaptability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment.

Key knowledge and experience

  • Experience working within structured frameworks such as government corporate governance or regulated environments with the ability to understand and apply relevant legislation and policy.

Essential requirements

  • Tertiary qualifications or equivalent relevant professional experience.
