Minimum Qualifications:
Level 1: Bachelor of Science in Electrical Mechanical Chemical or Nuclear Engineering or directly related engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
Level 2: Bachelors and (2) years of relative experience or Masters degree in electrical engineering computer engineering or a related engineering degree from an ABET-accredited institution.
Experience with PCB layout SMD/THT soldering JTAG debugging and embedded systems programming.
Proficiency in programming languages such as C C# SystemVerilog LabView Python MATLAB and Rust.
Familiarity with software tools like Cadence Virtuoso ModelSim Quartus KiCad LTSpice and Fusion 360.
Knowledge of machine learning applications in embedded systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
Excellent communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with high-performance power electronics and magnetics and advanced hardware for machine learning.
Background in designing and evaluating machine learning accelerator architectures for inference on FPGA.
Understanding of analog and digital circuit design and system on chip design.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this classification the employee is frequently required to stand walk sit stoop kneel bend and work in an office and field environment which may include construction sites. The pay range for this position is: Level 1 ($65064 - $133416) / Level 2 ($77628 - $159228). At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education relevant experience and other credentials.

Idaho National Laboratory is hiring an Instrumentation and Control Engineer to work in our Instrumentation and Controls Department. Our team works a 9x80 schedule located out of our Engineering Research Office Building in Idaho Falls Idaho with every other Friday off.
The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will be responsible for designing implementing and maintaining control systems for various applications with particular focus on embedded systems and machine learning integration. This role requires a deep understanding of electrical and electronic systems programming and the application of machine learning techniques to enhance system performance and reliability.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop instrumentation and control systems for various DOE NASA and DoD projects ensuring compliance with safety and performance standards.
Integrate machine learning algorithms into embedded systems to optimize performance and reliability.
Develop and maintain embedded software for control systems using languages such as C Python LabView and Rust.
Conduct simulations and testing to validate system functionality and performance.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including nuclear engineers to understand safety and system requirements.
Perform technical reviews of electrical system documentation and provide recommendations for improvements.
Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to control systems and embedded software.
Document design methodology system architecture and test results for future reference and replication.
