Job Summary

Primary Purpose
The Assistant Dean advances innovative user-focused services and programs that create an inclusive and responsive environment across the University Libraries. This position oversees discovery and access services research support and information literacy instruction scholarly communication and Holt-Atherton Special Collections & Archives ensuring these areas effectively serve the teaching learning and research needs of students and faculty across the Stockton San Francisco and Sacramento addition the Assistant Dean serves as a leading proponent of the University Libraries representing the libraries to campus partners and engaging with regional and national professional communities.

Essential Functions
Enhances organizational and operational effectiveness by contributing to strategic planning informing policy development and supporting decision-making that strengthen library operations and services. Leads the design and implementation of collection development and maintenance strategies that are user-centered sustainable and responsive to resource limitations and evolving priorities. Oversees the delivery of technical services to ensure seamless efficient and effective discovery and access experiences for users. Provides direction for the Holt-Atherton Special Collections promoting access to rare and unique resources that support teaching learning and research at the University and beyond. Advances scholarly communication by supporting the Universitys institutional repository and related initiatives including Open Educational Resources and Open Access. Leads outreach initiatives instructional programs exhibits and events that foster multiple literacies and enrich the academic experience. Leads the development assessment and evaluation of instructional services and programs to ensure alignment with the Universitys teaching research and clinical missions. Strengthens the University Libraries commitments to student success innovation and engagement by contributing to strategic initiatives and effective communication strategies. Mentors and supports staff in designing and implementing user-focused policies practices and services. Leads efforts to promote a holistic library-wide perspective through collaboration strategic communication and the cultivation of an innovative and inclusive environment. Represents and advocates for the University Libraries within the University and through participation in consortia regional and national professional communities. Participates in the delivery of library instruction and programs as needed. Minimum Qualifications
Masters degree or higher in library or information science or other relevant discipline. Five (5) years of increasingly responsible professional relevant work experience in an academic library with leadership of user-centered service delivery.

Preferred Qualifications
Strong leadership skills including analytical and conceptual abilities to think multiple steps ahead and consider the pros and cons and likely outcomes of strategies and proposals. Experience leading supervising mentoring and providing development opportunities for librarians and staff. Strong interpersonal and public communication skills including ability to serve as an advocate and spokesperson for University Libraries. Experience with managing budgets and assessing services. Ability to lead organizational change engage in big picture thinking and build consensus around a strategic vision. Ability to coach and guide others in the development framing and communication of strategic initiatives. Knowledge of emerging trends in higher education and new developments in reference instruction access services facilities operations and the use of information technology in support of a librarys mission. Ability to work creatively collaboratively and effectively and to play a leadership role in promoting teamwork diversity equality and inclusiveness within University Libraries and the campus. Ability to build successful partnerships across multiple campuses at the university and within the region. Experience and sensitivity in working with people of diverse backgrounds and cultures. Demonstrated experience in advancing social justice equity and inclusion in a university setting. Ability to engage and integrate culturally responsive practices and knowledge in their work.
