Job Summary

Were hiring a specialist SEN Teaching Assistant to support a high-needs ASD pupil on a 1:1 basis. This role requires someone calm consistent and confident working with pupils who present with demand avoidance / PDA-type behaviours.

Youll be the key adult for this pupil working closely with the SENCO and class teacher to deliver a low-arousal relationship-led approach that reduces anxiety and keeps the pupil engaged and safe.



Requirements

What youll be doing

  • 1:1 support for a high-needs ASD pupil

  • Using low-demand flexible strategies to reduce avoidance and escalation

  • Supporting regulation engagement and transitions

  • Working with SENCO/class teacher on daily strategies and adjustments

  • Maintaining a calm predictable environment

  • Following safeguarding and school behaviour plans at all times

You must have

  • Proven experience with ASD high-needs pupils and/or PDA profiles

  • Strong behaviour management rooted in empathy not confrontation

  • Excellent consistency reliability and communication

  • Up-to-date Enhanced DBS (or willing to apply)

  • Right to work in the UK

Postgraduate qualification or accredited training in SEND (e.g. National Award for SEN Coordination Autism Education Trust dyslexia/SpLD or SEMH specialism).Proficiency in alternative/augmentative communication methodsMakaton PECS AAC using evidence-based interventions such as TEACCH SCERTS or Positive Behaviour in Team-Teach MAPA or similar de-escalation and safe-handling with assistive ed-tech tools and adaptive software
