Position Summary
The Senior Accountant is a key member of the Finance team providing professional accounting reporting and analytical support to ensure the accuracy integrity and compliance of College financial operations. This role assists with investments fund and gift accounting financial system maintenance revenue management forecasting and analysis as well as supporting presentations and reports for the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees. The position collaborates with Procurement Accounts Payable Payroll Advancement Student Accounts and academic and administrative units to promote sound financial stewardship.
Primary Responsibilities
1. Financial Accounting and Reporting
Maintain general ledger and subledgers prepare journal entries reconciliations and adjustments.
Prepare monthly quarterly and annual financial reports.
Support annual audit preparation and regulatory compliance reporting.
Perform variance analysis forecasting and revenue management analysis.
2. Fund Gift Endowment and Investment Accounting
Record and reconcile restricted designated and endowed funds.
Partner with Advancement to ensure accurate gift and pledge accounting.
Assist with investment accounting and reporting.
4. Cash Procurement and Accounts Payable Collaboration
Reconcile bank accounts and ensure accurate posting of deposits payments and transfers.
Collaborate with Procurement and Accounts Payable to ensure proper expense classification encumbrance tracking and vendor payments.
Support development of procedures that improve efficiency and compliance in purchasing payment processes and revenue management.
5. Budgeting Forecasting Financial Analysis and Planning
Support the Controller and Budget Director in annual budget development and monitoring.
Prepare and distribute budget-to-actual reports and provide variance analysis.
Assist in preparing data analyses and presentations for the Finance Committee and Board of Trustees.
6. Financial Systems Chart of Accounts and Data Integrity
Maintain and govern the chart of accounts and Workday worktag structure for consistent and accurate financial reporting.
Support configuration maintenance and data integrity within Workday Banner and other financial systems.
Assist in developing and improving financial reporting tools analytics and dashboards.
7. Back-Up and Cross-Training Support
Provide back-up support to the Grant & Staff Accountant for grants payroll taxes and cash management.
Provide coverage during absences or high workload periods to ensure continuity of operations.
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related discipline.
Minimum of five (5) years of accounting experience preferably in higher education or nonprofit organizations.
Strong working knowledge of GAAP and fund accounting.
Experience with Workday Ellucian Banner or similar ERP systems.
Strong analytical communication and organizational skills
Preferred Qualifications
CPA (active or in progress).
Experience with fund endowment and investment accounting in higher education.
Knowledge of Workday worktags chart of accounts structure and ERP maintenance.
Familiarity with NACUBO accounting standards and higher education reporting.
Work Environment
Professional office environment using standard office equipment.
Occasional extended hours during fiscal year-end audits or Finance Committee/Board reporting periods.
