Reports To: Ahousaht Education Authority Board of Directors

Direct Reports : Deputy Director of Education MCC Manager MES Principal MSS Principal Post-Secondary Manager and other departments as assigned.

Salary: Based on qualifications experience and skills.

Ahousaht Education Authority is seeking a dedicated motivated and visionary Director of Education to lead our education system and support the success and well-being of Ahousaht learners from early childhood through adulthood.

Position Summ a ry:

The Director of Education will provide strong leadership rooted in Ahousaht values advance strategic education goals and ensure high-quality learning across all AEA departments. A deep respect for the Ahousaht Nations culture traditions and values is essential for this role. This role also requires a compassionate and forward-thinking leader capable of fostering positive relationships provide supportive guidance and effectively collaborating with all AEA departments Ahousaht Chief and Council community members and partner organizations.

This position requires the Director of Education to work full-time in the remote and rural community of Ahousaht BC Monday to Friday occasional weekends minimum of 35 hours per week. The Director of Education must also be willing to travel as needed for work including meetings and fostering partnerships.

Key Responsibilities include but not limited to:

Strategic Leadership

  • Develop and implement strategic plans while ensuring adherence to all policies and procedures including financial policies to promote organizational effectiveness sustainability and full compliance with reporting and funding requirements.
  • Serve as the senior liaison between the Ahousaht Education Authority and external stakeholders partners and organizations while building and sustaining strong relationships.
  • Provide visionary leadership ensuring alignment with organizational goals community priorities and long-term planning.
  • Adapt quickly to changing circumstances and make effective decisions in a face paced environment.
  • Support the integration of Ahousaht language culture and land-based learning across all educational programs
  • Be and maintain familiarity with B.C. School Act Independent School Act Employment Standards B.C. Society Act.

Management Skills:

  • Proven ability to lead independently while also contributing effectively as part of collaborative team.
  • Lead human resources functions including recruitment hiring training supervision and performance evaluation to cultivate a positive accountable workplace culture.
  • Oversee organizational operations and resources ensuring effective facilities management and smooth execution of daily administrative functions.
  • Apply strong organizational leadership and problem-solving skills across the organization.

Financial Management

  • Collaborating with AEA Finance manager and external organization to create budgets and review audits.
  • Manage AEAs comprehensive budget includes monitoring and allocation of budget.
  • Strong understanding of financial statements budgeting and annual audits.
  • Ability to write proposals work plans and prepare reporting in timely and professional manner.

Communication Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills including confident public speaking.
  • Proficient in active listening to understand support and respond effectively to staff student families community members or external organizations.
  • Engage and collaborate with families community members Board of Education and the Ahousaht Chief & Council while maintaining open communication.
  • Communicate and meet with external organizations: FNESC FNSA SD70 and others.

Qualifications

  • Preferred: Master of Education
  • Required: Bachelor of Education or similar.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in educational leadership Indigenous leadership or school administration.
  • Understanding of Indigenous education preferably within Nuu-chah-nulth contexts is an asset.
  • Commitment to student success community engagement and cultural revitalization.
