Job Summary

Elk Island Public Schools (EIPS) is one of the largest school divisions in Alberta serving the education needs of approximately 17750 students in 43 schools. EIPS requires individuals to work on a casual on-call basis as substitute Educational Assistants. We are looking to increase substitute support for our rural school locations.

Open to: Internal and External candidates willing to work at our rural schools and Fort Saskatchewan. Rural locations include: Bruderheim Lamont Mundare and Vegreville.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

Educational Assistants (EAs) assist teachers with many instructional and non-instructional tasks in the classroom and with other school activities. EAs work as members of the school and student support team. EAs either work with a particular special needs student or a group of students within a class or in a special program. EAs may provide personal care and additional assistance for students depending on their particular needs.

Life of an Educational Assistant at EIPS

Duties will include:

working with students individually or in small groups
working with students with disabilities
lifts transfers and personal care of students may be required

Education/Experience:

Requirement: High School Diploma

Candidates having the following qualifications would be considered an asset:

training or experience working with students with disabilities
behaviour management training
courses related to working with students with special needs
excellent interpersonal skills
the ability to work with students under the direct supervision of the classroom teacher
the ability to provide personal care for students
Emergency First Aid and CPR
Non-Violent Crisis Intervention Training
Educational Assistant Certificate or comparable education
