The University of Denver Sturm College of Law is a national leader in experiential legal education a recognized innovator in legal pedagogy and the home of multiple nationally recognized programs and centers. Housed in a state-of-the-art LEED Gold facility on the campus of the University of Denver the Westminster Law Library supports cutting-edge faculty research trains students in legal research across multiple subject areas and familiarizes students with a range of technologies relevant to modern-day legal practice.

Position Summary

This part-time (twenty hours per week) position reports to the Head of Technical Services and is responsible for day-to-day support of the Westminster Law Librarys technical services operations. The core duties of the position include work in acquisitions/purchasing/invoicing budget monitoring physical material processing and copy cataloging e-resource management interlibrary loan and additional duties and projects as assigned.

This is a non-benefitted position not to exceed 1000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

  • Participate in the day-to-day technical services functions of the law library including acquisitions/purchasing/invoicing physical material processing and copy cataloging e-resource management statistics collection and interlibrary loan. This includes helping to create new policies and procedures and adjust existing ones when appropriate.
  • Work with the Head of Technical Services to help support any technical services tasks done by student workers.
  • Work with proficiency in the library management system including the acquisitions cataloging and fulfillment modules.
  • Work closely with the Head of Technical Services in areas such as technical services planning budgeting monitoring and assessment.
  • Participate in the law librarys collection development efforts and collection-related projects in a time of changing collection priorities.
  • Stay abreast of new developments in library technical services.
  • Provide high-quality service at a combined circulation and reference desk as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in next-generation library systems especially Ex Libris Alma or a demonstrated potential for rapid growth into such skills.
  • Experience in technical services work such as acquisitions/purchasing/invoicing. physical material processing/copy cataloging and e-resource management or a demonstrated potential for rapid growth into such skills.
  • A strong commitment to innovation including comfort with e-resource management as well as library-related or other relevant technologies or a demonstrated potential for rapid growth into such skills. This includes an interest in and enthusiasm for emerging trends in library technical services.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills pertaining to the organization and accessibility of legal information.
  • Proficiency in tracking analyzing and projecting financial information or a demonstrated potential for rapid growth into such skills.
  • The ability to work both independently and as a team member.
  • The ability to establish and maintain effective and collaborative working relationships both inside and outside of the Law Library. This also includes the ability to work flexibly with faculty students staff and legal information vendors.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Attention to detail timeliness and dependability.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Adaptability and flexibility in the evolving landscape of legal information.
  • A strong customer service orientation.
  • An ability to work evenings and/or weekends as necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • A bachelors degree (B.A.) from a four-year college or university.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in technical services.
  • Relevant prior work experience in an academic library.

Physical Demands:

  • The ability to lift 20 pounds.
  • The ability to unpack and shelve books.
  • The ability to push carts of books.

Work Schedule:

To be determined in consultation with the Head of Technical Services.

Hourly Rate:

The hourly rate for this position is $25.00 per hour.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate departmental budget availability internal salary equity considerations and available market information but not based on a candidates sex or any other protected status.
