About the Role DaVita a global leader in kidney care and one of the most respected names in the healthcare industry is seeking an experienced Director of Laboratory Operations to lead high-volume clinical lab operations at its DeLand FL facility. This role is ideal for a mission-driven leader who excels in fast-paced environments and is passionate about people leadership operational excellence and healthcare innovation.
The Director will oversee the daily technical and scientific operations of a high-complexity lab processing 100000 tests per day. Reporting to the VP of Lab Operations you will drive strategic planning quality compliance staff development and execution of platform transitions and special projects that impact lab-wide performance and patient care.
Key Responsibilities Operational Leadership -
Direct all day-to-day technical and scientific operations of a high-volume clinical laboratory.

Ensure full compliance with CAP CLIA federal and state regulations.

Monitor productivity budgets and key performance metrics across all clinical lanes.
-
Ensure standard operating procedures are current and aligned with regulatory and internal standards.

Use data-driven insights to identify trends resolve operational issues and improve outcomes.
People & Performance Management -
Lead and develop a team of 200 lab professionals including 2 5 direct management reports.

Cultivate a culture of belonging high accountability and continuous improvement.
-
Establish clear performance expectations and drive engagement across teams and shifts.
-
Build succession plans and strengthen future bench talent.
Compliance & Quality Assurance -
Maintain robust QA/QC programs to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.

Oversee training competency assessments and performance evaluations for lab personnel.
-
Ensure timely resolution of internal and external customer issues.
-
Drive quality initiatives that support superior clinical outcomes.
Project Management & System Implementation -
Lead major laboratory platform and system transitions (e.g. Waters Department conversion for endotoxin testing).

Support long-term planning for the expansion of service lines and operational capabilities.
-
Serve as a key stakeholder in cross-departmental implementation and organizational change initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications (Non-Negotiable) -
Bachelors degree in Medical Technology or a related life sciences field.

8 years of leadership experience in high-complexity high-volume clinical lab environments.
-
Valid Medical Technologist certification (ASCP AMT AAB or equivalent).
-
Florida Supervisor License (or ability to obtain upon relocation).
-
Demonstrated success leading large teams and managing technical transitions.

Recent experience in a healthcare/laboratory setting.
Preferred Qualifications -
Masters degree in Business Administration or a related scientific field.

Experience managing multi-site clinical lab operations.
-
Experience implementing new testing programs platforms or service lines.

Expertise in organizational change management.
