Job Summary

The Lifestyle Worker delivers culturally safe inclusive and meaningful activities that support Elders wellbeing independence cultural identity and social connection. The role facilitates group and individual social support programs assists Elders to engage in cultural and recreational activities and supports community outings intergenerational programs and special events. Lifestyle Workers operate under the Community Wellbeing & Social Inclusion Lead working closely with the Program Support Officer Chef Program Administration Officer and Care Partners.

GEGAC is an Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisation based in Bairnsdale Victoria. Consisting of about 190 staff GEGAC is a Not-for-Profit organisation that delivers holistic services in the areas of Primary Health Social Services Elders & Disability and Early Childhood Education.

GEGAC advocates for the self-determination of the Aboriginal community by prioritising services that enhance social emotional and spiritual wellbeing with culture at the heart of everything we do.

Position Purpose

The Lifestyle Worker delivers culturally safe inclusive meaningful activities and social support that promote Elders wellbeing independence social connection and cultural identity.

This role focuses on:

Facilitating group programs (CHSP SaH and HACC PYP Social Support Group)

Supporting individual social support and community participation (CHSP SaH and HACC PYP Social Support Individual)

Assisting Elders to engage in cultural recreational and wellbeing activities

Supporting community outings intergenerational activities and special events

Ensuring program spaces are welcoming safe and culturally respectful

Lifestyle Workers operate under the direction of the Community Wellbeing & Social Inclusion Lead and work closely with the Program Support Officer Chef Program Administration Officer and Care Partners.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Experience assisting with group programs activities recreation or lifestyle support.
  • Ability to create safe inclusive and culturally respectful environments.
  • Understanding of ageing independence social connection and wellbeing principles.
  • Ability to recognise and escalate Elder abuse and safety risks.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Ability to follow direction work within scope and support the Lead.
  • Basic documentation and record-keeping ability.
  • Reliable respectful community-oriented approach.

Qualifications and Registrations Requirement (Essential or Desirable).

  • Certificate II or III in Community Services Aged Care Individual Support Disability HACC or similar OR equivalent experience. ESSENTIAL
  • Ability and willingness to maintain current First Aid and CPR certification to ensure safe response to incidents medical changes falls or emergencies in client homes. ESSENTIAL
  • Valid Drivers Licence: A current and unrestricted Victorian Drivers Licence is essential as the role involves regular travel across the Gippsland and East Gippsland region to engage with community staff service sites and external stakeholders. ESSENTIAL
  • A satisfactory Victorian Working with Childrens Check and a satisfactory National Police Check (Aged Care / Vulnerable Persons Sector) and NDIS Worker Screening Clearance ESSENTIAL
  • Ability to meet occupational vaccination requirements for workers supporting vulnerable people including providing evidence of immunisation history and recommended vaccinations and proof of COVID-19 vaccination to align with GEGAC requirements ESSENTIAL
  • A person of Aboriginal and or Torres Strait Islander background ESSENTIAL
