This Seasonal Boundary Inspector position supports Law Enforcement by assisting with the encroachment program and conducting boundary and site inspections throughout the district. The role combines fieldwork public interaction and data collection to help ensure that preserves remain safe well maintained and compliant with district rules.
What Youll Do
- Conduct inspections of preserve boundaries water control structures facilities and amenities.
- Provide information to the public regarding encroachment rules safety guidelines ordinance interpretation and general preserve use.
- Maintain accurate documentation including encroachment reports photographs and related records.
- Operate a District passenger sedan to travel between inspection sites.
- Use hand tools such as shovels metal detectors pruners and hand saws to support inspection needs.
- Collect and record geographic data using GIS and GPS equipment and software.
- Follow all safety rules and support a clean hazard-free working environment.
- Demonstrate strong customer service when interacting with internal and external stakeholders.
What Youll Need
- 18 years of age or older at time of hire.
- Valid Drivers License in good standing.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Working knowledge of GIS and GPS devices and software.
- Strong record keeping and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks and manage time independently.
- Comfortable working in wilderness and in remote areas.
Schedule & Pay
- Wednesday Friday.
- This position starts around May of 2026 and works until the end of October.
- $18 - 20 per hour
Work Setting
- Position is based out of the Headquarters facility in Wheaton IL and requires frequent travel to Forest Preserve sites across the district.
- Uniform and shirt will be provided. Boots and long pants are required for walking through uneven and forested terrain.
