Summary: The Department of Mathematics at Grand Valley State University invites applications for an affiliate faculty member for a full-time 9-month continuing position beginning Fall 2026. Applicants must have a Masters degree in Mathematics or a closely related field. Individuals from all backgrounds including from underrepresented groups are encouraged to apply. Successful candidates must be able to effectively engage with students colleagues and community members with a broad range of backgrounds and experiences. After an initial 1-year contract for each of the first two years the position may be renewed with continuing 3-year contracts.

Responsibilities: The standard teaching load for affiliate faculty is 12-15 credits per semester (4-5 courses usually 2-3 preps) consisting primarily of courses from MTH 108 through MTH 125. Affiliate faculty often teach 5 days per week with some classes meeting in the evening or early morning (but not both). Most classes meet on the Valley Campus in Allendale but affiliate faculty members sometimes teach courses on the City Campus in Grand Rapids. Responsibilities also include holding office hours attending regular course instructor meetings documenting progress of students in support programs and communicating with university support services when students are at risk. Affiliate faculty are also expected to engage in professional development activities related to teaching. There are opportunities for department service but it is not mandatory. Employment begins August 6 2026; classes begin August 31 2026.
Minimum Starting Salary: $51000; commensurate with experience.
Department/College: The Mathematics Department at Grand Valley State University serves over 200 majors and 8000 students annually in its classes.
