Job Summary

Job Title: Utility Call Center Technician
Location: Burke VA
Duration: 4 Months
Work Setting: On-Site

Rate: $16.00 per hour

Position Overview

We are seeking a detail-oriented Utility Call Center Technician to provide exceptional customer service and technical support for utility-related inquiries including sanitary sewer and stormwater emergencies. The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with residents businesses and internal/external agencies while managing service requests and coordinating field responses.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver excellent customer service to residents business owners and government agencies in a professional manner.

  • Answer and respond to phone calls emails and other communication types regarding sanitary sewer and stormwater emergencies and maintenance requests.

  • Use GIS applications to research locations and ownership of utilities to assist field crews and inform decision-making.

  • Investigate record create update and close service requests and work orders in the asset management system for Stormwater & Wastewater Management.

  • Update boards contractor information staff availability and logbooks on a daily/weekly/biweekly basis as directed.

  • Monitor Pumping Stations Branch (PSB) alarms in SCADA and Scout systems logging personnel entry/exit and relaying alarm status to appropriate teams.

  • Dispatch inspectors and field crews using county electronic systems recording all necessary details (time location caller assigned inspector etc.).

  • Maintain knowledge of environmental regulations agency practices policies and available resources to provide accurate information and guidance.

  • Ensure compliance with reporting procedures for Sanitary Sewer Overflows (SSOs) and complete initial compliance reports.

  • Flexibility & Resilience: Willingness to work after hours emergency shifts and during inclement weather.

Preferred Skills

  • Knowledge of wastewater and/or stormwater systems.

  • 12 years of experience with field agencies utilities or technical field support teams.

  • Experience operating communication equipment in fast-paced environments.

  • Basic knowledge of Tax Map Grids.

  • Experience using asset management systems for work orders and maintenance history.

  • Basic to intermediate skills in GIS applications.

  • Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Word Excel and Outlook.

Experience Requirements

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.

  • At least one year of engineering technical support or related experience (or equivalent combination of training and experience).

Preferred:

  • Ability to train 2032 hours per week during business hours (7:00 AM4:30 PM).

  • Availability for weekend or overnight shifts (7 AM7 PM or 7 PM7 AM) after training.

Education

Required:

  • High school diploma or GED.

Preferred:

  • One year of vocational trade school or one year toward an applied science associates degree.

Additional Information

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate clearly (oral and written) research information make decisions and input/retrieve data from computers.

  • Ability to secure the building including walking to verify lock and camera status.

  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts including nights weekends holidays and administrative leave days.

  • Ability to sit for extended periods stoop bend and reach as needed.

  • Must be able to respond on-site to pump station alarms dispatch crews and open secured gates for emergency personnel.

  • Must be physically and mentally able to use personal protective equipment in outdoor environments (hardhat eye protection hearing protection safety footwear PPE).
